The beta version of vBulletin 3 was released this morning and I now have a copy on my hard drive.

However, we will not be doing the upgrade for at least another week to 10 days. I'm impatient and I'd do it now if I could :D but this is going to require the work of three people and coordinating our schedules is somewhat difficult. I'm hoping for the 23rd or the 25th which is a week from next Monday or Wednesday.

This forced delay will give us time to see how the upgrade process goes for others and will allow the developers more time to squash bugs. Also most changes I make here would have to be redone with each minor release (and in a beta situation there could be quite a few).

I've posted this before but I don't believe it's been posted here so in case you missed it...

The board will be down for a full 24 hours for the upgrade. So there is no point in checking every 2 seconds to see if it's back. If the upgrade is completed early the boards will not be brought back up early. Following the upgrade I will still need to configure the settings and manually redo the style (which will be new!) all the while becoming familiar with what is an entirely new system.

I will try to give 24 hours notice prior to the shutdown. However, due to the limited availability of the person doing the upgrade this may not be entirely possible.

In the meantime please do me a favor - make sure you know your member name and password. You will probably need it to log back in following the upgrade. Also, if you have questions or experience difficulty following the upgrade please post in the Community Assistance forum so that I am sure to see it. And that way others experiencing the same problem can easily find the answer.

I'm really excited about this, I've been waiting for over a year. This will allow me a lot more flexibility and will add several new features on your end.

More to come...

Just an update... Some of you have seen the purple style I've been working on. Well, tonight I decided to scrap it. I could always change my mind at some point but as of now the plan is to carry these styles over to the new board.

I didn't think they'd be ready in time for the upgrade but the designers say they should have a compatible version completed within 2 weeks.

They're releasing an update to the beta software tomorrow. Hopefully that will give me an idea of how much progress has been made. We won't be upgrading until a release candidate is available so I'd guess we're a good month or two away.
