Seems like the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is the new GreenPeace. As once absolutionist groups make compromises and become watered down forms of their old self, the hard-lined supporters will reform as a phoenix from the ashes - pure and on fire once again.

It happened with vegetarianism and veganism, and it looks like it has happened with Green Peace and this SSCS.

Eat whale to prevent whaling!
Yeah - some great logic there.

"We can wait for Japanese opinion to change, but by that time there won't be any whales left," Captain Paul Watson, the founder of Sea Shepherd, told AFP by satellite phone in Antarctic waters.

The silver-haired Canadian says his life changed during a 1975 confrontation with Soviet whalers when he saw "a flicker of understanding in the dying whale's eye." He left Greenpeace in 1977 and vowed to protect animals directly.

Good for him. Sea Shepherd is awesome.

It's extremely disappointing to see this happening. What are they thinking? Greenpeace must have its head in the snow, or somewhere else. :p

In 2003, crewmembers of Sea Shepherd's Taiji Dolphin Campaign filmed and photographed the slaughter in Taiji bay. The world - including many Japanese citizens - saw for the first time, the horrendous brutality of this slaughter of beautiful creatures. These horrible images shocked, stunned and enraged many into action. Sea Shepherd crewmembers dove into the water and cut the holding nets to free 15 of the dolphins awaiting slaughter. VIEW VIDEO These crewmembers spent 23 days in jail and were charged with "forceful interference with Japanese commerce."

It seems that so many eco-groups are adopting a "siding with the enemy" policy. It's almost as if they see their cause as hopeless, so they are throwing up their hands in defeat and saying "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em."

My respect for Greenpeace fell another 20 notches. They used to be a great organisation, but they just seem to be going further and further downhill every year.

And some supporters of the group which has battled for decades to protect the world's largest animals are doing what hardliners find abominable -- eating whale.

Greenpeace last month launched an online travelogue -- the Whale-Love Wagon -- of Japan's whaling towns. In one episode, a Spaniard visits a grandmotherly woman's home to eat whale for the first time and politely tells her in Japanese it was delicious.

I absolutely love Sea Shepherd.

Regarding Greenpeace, I remember reading an article by Paul Watson telling about how a former colleague of his from Greenpeace told him that the way he handled things (being right on the front lines) was despicable, insane. Lots of people in GP think Paul Watson is a nutjob. And look what GP is doing now - eating whales! :grr:
