Go UK! :pibo:

The milestone was passed on Friday when the Braes O'Doune wind farm, near Stirling, began producing electricity.

Trade and Industry Secretary Alistair Darling described it as a "significant landmark" for the UK wind industry.

The government has set a target for 10% of electricity to be generated from renewable sources by 2010.

I'm in North Wales where one of the big offshore windfarms is based. They're trying to get permission for a large expansion of it but there is HUGE opposition to it. I can't figure these people out. They'd rather have a nuclear power reactor in the area than a windfarm. Bonkers.

I can't understand opposing good, healthy energy.

I'm pretty sad that my generation is so intent on closing its ears to the problems of the world. People are way too self-absorbed, and no one wants to do their part to help take care of our Mother Earth, our home.

She's all we have and we are destroying her. It's terribly sad.

The reasons for opposing windfarms are a) windfarms look ugly and will scare off the tourists leading to lower income for the region and lower property prices b) they are 'bird shredders' killing large amounts of birdlife.

Those arguments are countered with a) some people think the windfarms look interesting and may even draw tourists to see them. But most people hardly even notice the windfarm that's already offshore. b) more birds are killled by cars than a windmill. Perhaps we should ban cars, too? And how many thousands of birds were killed in oil spills this year?

I think windfarms are pretty :)

this is a nice step in the right direction, even though I know that wind farms wont really be a "solution" :)

Yeah, I don't view windfarms as "ugly". I think people are overreacting and just being whineboxes for the fun of it.
