hello.......
I just found veggiboards and I am very excited that I have a place to post besides peta2, although I love thier boards. I am getting ready to move out of my apartment into a house that sits on a little over an acre and I am soooo excited that I can finally start growing some of my own veggies. The problem is.......I have never planted anything except for flowers. I was wanting some info on what's the best veggies to grow when you're just starting out, info on the care, etc. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks,
Rachel

Hello, beginner veggie grower, I'm a resounding "beginner" at growing too and been dying to grow my own for ages myself but alas so far cannot :( so you can be a fore-runner bean in leading the way :) ...And so maybe I could learn virtually & in synch, on a par alongside your learning of the ways to grow heh!!! :hi:

That's too bad that you can't grow :( Hopefully we'll learn some about growing. I can't wait to start as soon as I get moved!
runner beans are not really demanding and therefore easy to grow.
"Runner beans, that is eaten in its long green pods. The beans used to have a fibrous string down the center of the pod; this characteristic has been bred out of the species. But they are still called string beans. "
And look like this http://www.gezondheidsnet.nl/upload/channels/sperziebonen.jpg
Pumpkins are also rewarding, just like zuchini's

Lettuce is easy to grow too. An herb garden is another possibility for getting your feet wet with minimal investment.
Would you consider to buy or get some books from the library? I can post a few books that I liked.

No-Brainers (hard to kill - easy to maintain)
Swiss Chard (great greens spring through fall)
Radishes (sping or fall) - you can eat the greens too!
Cucumbers (grow them on a fence or find another way to keep them off the ground and they tend to stay disease free)
Chile Peppers (I find these grow like weeds - haven't had as much luck the sweet bell peppers - but jalapenos, sweet banana, anaheim, and that type are easy to grow)
