Since the fitness area has grown so much, any thoughts on a journaling area? :hamster:
This would be different than the Hamster's thread as you could journal your daily fitness and food intake. it would #1 make you feel accountable and give you a record to see how far you are progressing. #2 Give a opportunity to have other give you feedback & suggestions. and #3 allow person just entering to read about someone who had similar goals or enjoyed the same activities (i.e. running, swimming, pilates, yoga, weights, etc.).

I love this idea!! :nana: Especially because it makes you feel more accountable. I will participate if a sub-forum is created, and I will enjoy reading others' journals.

I like the sound of this, I need to start journaling my exercise and food anyway, I think it'd help me since I tend to binge eat sometimes.

Why would a seperate forum be created, rather than just having threads in the main fitness forum?
(just curious, I'm not around in this forum all that much).

It seems overkill to me. We already have a fitness and a weight forum.

what I think in feelings of duplicity....Let me get out my cautionary consideration first (in blue) even if this thing goes ahead, which I have no real problem with by the way I guess... Any damn hoo~ SEE SECONDLY FROM WORD "EXCEPT" DOWN (in green) my more positive input for coming round to the idea.... :)
I'm all for fitness, but I recommend people don't ware themselves out or experience burn out too often, best no burn out at all unless you're young and can get away with it.
But more to the point the exact thing I should be saying is I am neutral-ish about extra whatever it is, but fear also it may be overkill in some sense too.
But then I'm a tad bitter about my training at the moment, there's not much of it happening, plus I've never so far in my life bought into the whole journaling thing, but that doesn't mean its a bad thing, only I say do more of the exercise and less typing if you're really into fitness, and remember not to burn yourself out doing either thing else you'll get worn and moody and be sick of either or both IMO, and maybe end up resenting some aspects like the journal of self progress if things don't happen as quick as a person wishes.......
EXCEPT ON THE UPSIDE (sorry to sound neg prior to this statement) MAYBE whats good is the ability of a fitness journal forum enabling people of that particular fitness approach (ie, documented togetherness and logbooks) to have their own niche in order so users of it may share all in more or less syncronicity (with journals all in one place as the core idea) with other peeps when comparing notes, instead of having to delve in amongst other types of fitness threads.
Let me just say though I respect anyone that likes to keep fit, but I am trying to offer what keeps things real too in all of the above just as a note of warning to those that may find journaling a chore or somesuch, but that really depends on the person, and as I've said I've never actually spent time keeping a journal myself, and thats saying something as I'm quite the fitness fanatic when in my element. I should not be too hypocrtical sounding though in dissing this, I would rather be neutral about it at this stage, and see what sea-sirens plan pans out (even if I have to admit I was wrong by giving too much of my opinion about suggesting it maybe overkill, so NEUTRAL from me and on the whole it sounds a good sense measure to have a journaling forum to keep things tidy that way) :)

I feel kinda stupid saying too much about this, but WHAT IF what sea-siren has in mind AS A SUBFORUM actually works and most importantly in my view keeps things tidy for all the journals as I said.
For me Journals and Blogs on the net in general are such a psychological mess and such a mind-spin headache making more mess than organization, but all in a self contained SUBEFORUM on VB, I don't see the problem.... and it might in fact help make keeping journals A MORE HEALTHY AFFAIR. :)

SeaSiren, you should commandeer the fitness forum and post your exercise journal right up front. That'll save me an extra click. I also think everyone should use VA~goth~UK's colour-coding scheme. It makes me feel all happy.

You would be making many more clicks though DeflatorMouse without the recommended proposal., imagine when trying to locate every which who's journal less the recommendation as now....
Whereas yes the partitioning would be one click away extra yeah but then once your in the subforum, they'll be no need to get eye strain about where all the journalists are, nor about making many more ad hock clicks :) ....
ps, And thanks for the color happy comment ;)

Haha, that's true. I officially reverse my stance. A sub-forum would be great. I really would like to see what other people's individual workouts & dietary regimens are like. Recently queenfluff had a "7-day juice fast" thread in the Raw forum which really inspired me to clean up my own act. If we had a central location for such posts it would be easier to keep track of them all.

The idea, in my opinion, is a fine one.
Consistency is 95% of any successful fitness program. A good way to general consistency is through accountability. Ideally, people would have others in their everyday life that they are able to be accountable to though that frequently isn't the situation, especially if one is trying to change established behaviors.
Furthermore, I have seen numerous posts in the fitness section where the poster made vague references to their fitness programs and asked for help -- never have I seen appropriate help suggested because it is so hard to do so without specifics. Having a journal to refer to would be helpful.

I post journals on several boards (both veg and mainstream) and would be happy to keep one here as well. I have to be a bit more careful, re: this board is more conservative considering pics then the main stream body building boards. Which is totally fine. I'll make the adjustments accordingly..... no worries at all!
However, keep in mind that if I do post, I AM a competitor, which means my training and diet are more extreme then what the average person who just wants to be fit should do. That being said. I am back in training for my next comp tomorrow. I just finished the Arnold and have another on April 5th, with 9 total set in stone this year.
OK, then will start tomorrow! :)

Yes, you can find my journal on veganbodybuilding.com, veganbodyfitness.net, bodybuilding.com, t-nation.com, musculardevelopment.com, and now here as well and have been asked to now carry one on veganbodybuilding.org

^^^A Good Girl is the one that has an "across the boards" consideration in partaking
the motion in promotion of vegan fitness journalistic locomotion. :D hehe
TO WHOMEVER TO READ: (fitness buffs and the like, whoever you maybe)^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^
But seriously, whatever you feel about journals, VB might be another place to have
them for those that want them, but its not really the most obvious place always in
terms of numbers of interested ppl I think maybe, so therefore posting from fitness
people generally maybe not constant enough to realize the potential of a journal although I could be wrong :p ha.... and if I am wrong, then swell. And annnnnnnnnywaaaaaaaaaay, journals are of a come and go habit anyway for some people.
Whilst I'm *not* wildly enthusiastic VB is the best place, I personally wouldn't mind seeing fitness journals here on VB if thats the go, but VB is hardly at the forefront of fitness in like real terms, especially when besides that, so much else about the board is leaving to be desired, thus all the talk lately about people leaving, etc. Bleh. Sorry to be pessimistic, but in any case I'm glad you SeaSiren seem to have an open mind about where you post as one 'journal contender', and well this is your thread, so that is expected you would be interested. :D

 you are so sweet! :)
.... I'm a veg in a VERY mainstream sport, and on top of that I model for a living, which is a very harsh world (too tall, too short, to fat, too thin, to light too dark, etc.... they are very blunt and to the point). That being said, they don't call me the "ice queen" for nothing. I post my journals to get the information out, since so many think it can not be done on a veg diet. I get hundreds of PM's and e-mails per day via the boards I am on, my 2 profile pages and also e-mails from my website (many are now handled by someone else, since I could no longer handle the load). The vast majority are quite supportive and positive. But as expected the more in the public eye I am, I do get some that aren't so much. It's OK ..... it's what makes the world go 'round and such. So no worries about me, I'll be just fine
Oh I ramble too .... so hang on! The point I was trying to get to :D , is that I am contacted by many many people, who want to go veg, but did not know how, or thought the "image" was of a diff type of person all together. I am trying to blow all those preconceived notions and myths away. Most people who run into me have no idea I am veg (vegan in fact) and some even eat meals with me for some time before they even put it together. I am someone who is quite mainstream who happens to be vegan.
