How do you wash a shower curtain?

I hope I am posting this in the right forum. At any rate, I was going to try and wash my shower curtain so that I don't have to add extra waste to the landfills, and was wondering if anyone does this and if they have any advice? TIA!

If it's heavy duty vinyl you can put it in the washing machine with a couple of towels on the gentle cycle.

If it's just a cheap plastic curtain, you could just wash it in the bathtub. Take it down, get some warm soapy water in the tub, and wash it by hand. Rinse, then hang it to dry.

Mine is a cheap plastic curtain and there are instructions pressed into the plastic (hard to see unless you're looking for it) that say it can be put through the washing machine.

But yeah, you can just as easily do it in the tub if you're unsure.

If you really want to save water you can wrap it around you while showering and belt out "We are the champions..." Fun times. :rockon:

I have a video of an ex in my shower, kind of doing what michael said. Except he was singing "Unchained Melody" in a slow/retarded/special voice, and pressing himself against my shower curtain, which is clear. :lol:

I've always just washed the plastic liner part in the washer (separately-- use small load setting to save water). Just use regular laundry detergent. I wash mine every 3 months or so. It comes out really wrinkled, and seems crinklier, but if you hang it, it soon will go flat again. If you have another part, like a cloth outside, then usually it will have a sticker. Generally a cold water wash-- gentle will do. Drip dry to dry-- usually just re-hang it and put it on the inside of the tub.

Some bleach added to the wash will kill any mildew that might be stuck on it - AND will retard (not prevent, but slow down) the growth of such organisms in the future...

I wash my shower curtain all of the time. I just throw it in the wash by itself and it was just a cheap plastic curtain.

Tossing it in the washer is good advice, especially if you've got a vinyl liner that needs washing, and toss it in with towels. Laundry detergent works, but so does dish detergent. If your towels are white and you are not opposed to the use of chlorine bleach, you can use diluted bleach about five minutes after the load starts "chugging" during the wash cycle.

I bleach mine because I live in a mold factory--er, I mean, airtight apartment near a river and the ocean.
