Any Britcom fans out there?

I'm a hopeless nut for Britcoms. My top shows are the Young Ones, Black Adder, Red Dwarf and Coupling. Hugh Laurie was one of my favorite actors way before House - he was on Black Adder III, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, among many shows.

Even though it was really a scifi drama, Blake's 7 was good for an unintentional laugh.

I'd like to hear who else over here is fixated on Britcoms. Hail Britannia!

I'm a fan—I especially like Red Dwarf series I - V. After that...not so much.

I'd add Spaced, Black Books, Men Behaving Badly and Green Wing to your list of top British comedies.

I love Britcoms, it's practically all I watch on TV, my faves are The Young Ones, Bottom, Only Fools and Horses, The New Statesman, Blackadder, Red Dwarf... loads more, too many to list!

I just watched all the Black books in the last week. Hahah oh man love the british. LOVE THEM. I've seen a couple of blackadders.. they were great too!! And Faulty Towers.. LOVE IT! (My 6th form media studies teacher loved britcom.. because yeah it's where i saw all this stuff first.. )

LOVE BRITISH HUMOUR. So much better than elsewhere.

I'm a sucker for a good brit comedy. I dont watch the Young Ones or Blackadder anymore because they're a bit like Python to me....I've seen them all a zillion times.

My absolute favourite of recent years though has to be Spaced :rockon: I've also loved Fifteen Story's High, League of Gentlemen, Gimme, gimme, gimme, The Royale Family, The Office, The Mighty Boosh. :smitten:

There's a new one out too called 'Im with Stupid' that seems like it might be pretty good.

Hugh Laurie is a fine actor, and though I don't care for House, some of the stuff he did in the early 90s is hilarious. He was given all the best dialogue in Blackadder ("Ah yes. And the porpoise?"). He seems to have teamed up with Stephen Fry in many, many things (Blackadder, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, Jeeves & Wooster, and recently QI).

Have you ever seen Bottom? It stars Mayall and Edmonson from The Young Ones, playing practically identical characters ten years later. It has some low-brow toilet humour, but there's some very funny dialogue to cancel it out.



Eddie: [to Richie] How's your sausage?
Richie: [looking surprised] 's A bit personal, isn't it? Oh, I see, you mean my *sausage*!
[points at frying pan]
Eddie: Yes?
Richie: You're asking me about my sausage?
Eddie: Sausage, yes?
Richie: Not my penis?
Eddie: [astonished] No!
Richie: Oh, thank heavens for that! Well, what can I tell you, Eddie, it's an absolute disaster! I just can't get the hang of this cooking lark! I mean, you put the sausage in the pan, you set it on fire, and what happens? It gets incinerated!
Eddie: Well, maybe we should eat our flakes?
[Richie looks disgusted]
Eddie: [Eddie holds up a box of cornflakes]
Richie: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, I see what you mean, yes! I think I'm getting "double entendre disease"!
Eddie: Can I drink your juice?
Richie: [looking revolted, then realizing] Oh! Oh, yes! Yes, of course, go ahead! I think I'm going mad this morning!
[knocking on the front door]
Eddie: Someone's giving our knocker a damn good banging! I'd better go see who it is!
Richie: Righty 'o! I'll grab a hold of my sausage and give it a good seeing-to!

I thoroughly enjoy The Vicar of Dibley and Coupling, which I realize are about as opposite as two Britcoms can get.

I hated Fawlty Towers. There simply wasn't a sane-and-quirky cast member to provide relief from the insanity.

Faulty towers was very funny and John Cleese is brilliant.

Coupling was genius. I am heartbroken they are no longer producing new episodes. Stephen Moffett is brilliant in the way he wrote that show. I always enjoyed some of the quirky things they'd do with split screen or juxtaposing time; kind of reminded me of Tom Stoppard in a way.

Vicar of Dibley had its moments. The one with Judi Dench and that guy where they're the older married couple (can't remember the name) never did a thing for me. Judi Dench is absolutely brilliant though.

I do need to find more Britcom's. I adore the british sense of humor (yes, I am aware of that gigantic sweeping generalization).

Red Dwarf is one of my favourite shows ever. Loved Black Adder too. I really need to watch Coupling as I've not seen it (if only for the yummpy Jack Devenport).

Loved Absolutely Fabulous and Vicar of Dibley too although Ab Fab got a bit rubbish in parts.

I can't stand The Office though. There's just something about Ricky Gervais I don't like (I didn't like his other stuff either so it's not just David Brent).

Eh, I don't know. She seemed pretty oblivious much of the time. Maybe it was just during the first season. I barely made it through that and didn't see any subsequent seasons.

I'd love to be able to mimic the "machine-gunning a seal" laugh she uses, mostly because it's so annoying it would make a great newsroom joke.

Actually, there were only two seasons of Fawlty Towers, a total of twelve episodes.

I never got into Fawlty Towers, even though I think John Cleese is great.

Glad that the PBS station here in New York started showing Monty Python again. Yeah, I know that it's almost a cliche, but that's one of the first Brit shows to really make an impact Stateside.

I'll confess, my guilty Britcom pleasure is Are You Being Served?

Ah, you have great taste. I started watching the show when I was in junior high, so some of the jokes flew over me (too young to understand some of the innuendo!). And I always adored Mrs. Slocombe's hair :D
