Alright, so I'm not sure where to put this post, but I figure it will get the most attention here. :juggle:
Anyway, let me just start by saying that I am a teenager, in high school, and I know from experience that teenagers are a lot more open to accept people's differences and choices nowadays than adults are. My friends didn't even blink when I told them I was vegan...well, some of them quesitoned me to death, but it was out of curiosity (I hope). There are a few vegetarians at my school that I know of, and suddenly (completely out of the blue) my school added a "veggie menu" ( Gardenburger or cheese pizza...) to my great delight. Well, getting to the point, I want to try to educate my fellow schoolmates. i mean, if I had been faced with the hard facts of the cruelty factory farming and all the benefits of veganism before, i would have become vegan MUCH MUCH sooner. Seriously. Because I was always kind of lying to myself, saying "well, they can't suffer that much, etc" but once I actually read the Vegetarian Starter Kit (which I ordered almost as a joke from PETA) I quit eating any animal products right then and there.
I KNOW that a lot of students would at least become vegetarian or try to cut back on animal products if they were informed. I mean, my best friend didn't even know what gelatin was made of for crying out loud! And she's a 16 year old straight A student! So, I think the reason more people aren't vegan is sheer, blissful ignorance. I really think I can make a difference, just handing out a few flyers. I know the teachers would let me pass them out before each class, and it would be sooo helpful!
So, my question is : Is there anywhere I can order pamphlets on veganism, that detail the health benefits (the students can show their parents) and the ethical and environmental benefits? And, er, can I order them for free? Because my mom would seriously freak and think I was taking it too far. Or she would think I was spending money on something useless. Or, better idea, if there isn't a site that sends these pamphlets for free, would anyone be willing to order some and send them my way? I mean, we are all committed vegans/vegetarians here and it would be helping and enlightening a whole new generation! I'm underage, so it's not like I can buy stuff online or write checks and stuff, or even touch my own money without parental consent (grrr). So ay advice would be greatly appreciated. I;m sure the animals would appreciate it too! :pibo: [/COLOR]
