I heard the kind of socks you get are important but I don't know which ones?

Well, you don't want 100% cotton. You need to get some poly-blend socks that are designed for sport -- they wick the moisture off your feet.

Also, try getting some anti-blister socks. They usually have two layers and are somewhat thin. I have these: http://tworoadsfitness.com/wrightrunning.html

Others might have more suggestions.

I dunno about running specficially, but I wear Fox River socks almost exclusively. They are so comfy and have never given me a problem whether casual walking, hiking, or jogging.

The only problem I have with them is that I bought some of the black quarter length socks and they pill horribly. I don't have that problem at all with the white or khaki ones.

Hi, I run a lot and I pretty much only wear Thorlos and SmartWool socks. They're pretty much the most comfortable socks ever, they don't give me blisters and they're super durable. Two brands that are definitely worth the extra $$.

For the cheaper route, you can also go to Target and pick up pairs of CoolMax socks. They've worked just fine for me. I also wear WrightSocks.

I get my socks from Target, I like the coolmax but I like the goldtoes better. They have some very cushy ones and they don't have a seam at the toes, which always give me blisters.

being a marathoner in training and plauged by blisters when I started running 3 years go, I run exclusively in Smart Wool. Even the doubled layered blister proof socks couldn't compair to smart wool. I also use a product called blistershield, a white powder reminisitent of corn starch.

I don't think I've ever actually bought a pair of running socks. It always seems to be the thing that all my brothers like to give me for christmas. :D

I have some adasis ones and a couple of pair of nike ones. I think they are coolmax material. I haven't had a problem with socks at all.

One word of advice if you get blisters from socks because is to turn the sock inside out so you don't feel the seem. I know a few runners who do that.
