I would say that philosophies is the logical reason.
Couldn't you agree?

I don't understand what you mean. the basic ethical philosophy behind veganism and vegetarianism is the same, just the degree is different. unless you mean something else, maybe you can expound so i understand. :)

I don't understand what you mean.
Wkikipedia:
Veganism:
Veganism (also known as strict vegetarianism or pure vegetarianism) is a philosophy and lifestyle that avoids using animals and animal products for food, clothing and other purposes.

Vegetarianism:
Vegetarianism is the practice of not consuming meat, with or without the use of other animal derivatives, such as dairy products or eggs.

I really am dumbfounded that you really can not see a difference.

I didn't understand your post. that's all. not the concept.

I think you will find, wikipedia aside, that most vegetarians are so because of ethical concerns. so the philosophy is the same, right?

I wonder just how many vegetarian are so because of the EEW Factor.
You know like when your a kid and you parents tell you to eat that piece of chicken, and all these gross images come to your mind and you start to gag at the thought of eating that piece of chick. I wonder how many people here vegan or veggie don't eat meet because they cant stand the "thoughts" of it, and how many do it for the sake of the animal.

from being on this board over a year, I would have to say most vegetarians are so for ethical concerns- and most vegans were vegetarian first. but i still don't understand your point on philosophy.

Simply put animal explotation
VS
No animal Explotation.
In my opinion this is a big difference.

I don't know Michael's actual reason for the separation, but if I had to guess, it would be so that vegetarians could discuss milk, eggs, honey, or any other animal product without us feeling as if they were stepping on our toes, or us jumping on their case. I imagine it was intended as more of a compromise than a segregation. Besides, I think we should dance in each other's forums, as long as we do so harmoniously. :)

I would suspect that the majority of vegetarians you find on an online forum about veg*nism are going to be vegetarian for ethical reasons. I don't think forums like this one are a good representation of the veg*n population.

Why would a vegetarian for health reasons be on a veg*n forum? I don't find it to be a likely combination.

I agree, and further most vegans i think became vegetarian first( for ethical reasons) then eventually became vegan, or more vegan.

In the immortal words of the immortal Rodney King*: "Can't we all just get along?"

I think there are some health veg*ns here, but I think in the population in general, veg*ns are veg*ns for ethical reasons.

It's not an issue of segregation at all. People can still post/read in either forum but they need to be mindful of what they're posting where. I feel veganism and vegetarianism are two very different things (even if they're done for the same reason) so each group should have a section where they feel comfortable discussing issues that pertain to them. Hypothetically this should present a more respectful/supportive environment for each group.

I think you're probably right. IME, I meet a lot of people who are almost veg*n for health reasons, but they always eat a little meat or animal products. Health isn't enough to motivate them to cut meat or animal products completely out. That seems to require an ethical shift.

Well I'd like to hope it's also so vegans can discuss the ethical issues around dairy, eggs, etc. without accusations of "vegan police." :)

Or maybe the vegetarians have conspired to round up all of the vegans into their own little forum, and then...

BAM!!

They lock the door behind us.

You mean like, "First they came for the Jews, and I did not object because I was not Jewish..."?

Oh yes, it's all part of the evil, diabolical plan. One by one, self-proclaimed vegans will lose access to the other forums. It'll be the lesser-traveled ones, like the frugal forum, until suddenly the vegans can post nowhere but here.

Too bad the secret's out now though. It'll be trickier for the vegetarians to pull it off now.
