I just got the keys to my new (to me) apartment! :hamster: I spent some time over there today just cleaning the kitchen. The hardwood floors need to be cleaned, too. What product or homemade recipe do you recommend for cleaning hardwood floors? Thanks!

I wash mine with white vinegar and water most of the time. If they are really dirty, I put in a bit of dish detergent - but not too much as I was told that it's the soaps that dull the surface. Lots of elbow grease is also a requirement!

One of the really nice things about hardwood floors is that they don't show a lot of dirt !

Wow, gas range...hardwood floors- Do you live in my old apartment?

I never used anything but warm water and a mop on my floors.
Poppy's right about the elbow grease, and about the not showing dirt as badly.
Another plus about them is it makes for easy clean-up if there's a spill, or a pet mess. As the owner of 3 cats, I can tell you that adjusting to carpeting from having wood flooring is a hard transition. :)

An old friend of mine is in the hardwood floor business...she says water only!

Dark tea. Tannin in Tea is supposed to be great for hardwood. If you have polyurithane on it, I would wonder, but with any other natural varnish it could be okay. To sweep I only use one of those duster brooms-- the kind with the washable mop type head.

Diluted vinegar and water. Don't over wet. Just a damp mop will do the trick.
I love hardwood floors.

Same here, and I grew up with parents who loved Murphy's oil soap. It smells similar (maybe the linseed oil?) but is enviro safe, etc.
