ok i tried my first milk alternative tonight but i wasn't too keen

it was ecomil almond milk and i found it a bit too sweet and rich
if it was just one or the other i probably could get used to it but both...
i'm not so sure

does anyone know how soya, rice and quinoa milk compares in taste to almond milk?

i'm going to try and find another one to try if possible.
preferably something either not so sweet or not so rich

any help much appreciated

Almond milk is tasty. I'm a big fan of soy milk. I haven't found one that I didn't like yet. Silk tastes good and it's fortified with calcium and B-12. I've noticed that Rice Milk is pretty popular around here. I found it too watery and sweet. I like soy better because it's creamier.

I'm in the uk & the best milk substitute i've found is Alpro unsweetened soymilk. I'm not sure if it's available in the US (or where ever you may be!) but if it is, give it a try :)

my only advice is to keep trying different kinds until you find one you like...

I'd just try different kinds until you find what you like. Almond, rice, and soy milks all have a little different taste, along with whatever brands you try. Personally, I like soymilk, usually Silk or Soydream for most things, though rice can be good. I agree about the almond, it does seem a bit more sweet, but i think it's really good by itsself.

It's funny I like different kinds for different things. I love rice milk for cereal and dunking graham crackers and cookies. But I like Silk soy milk for cooking and mixing with my coffee. You just have to experiment until you find what you like.

Ditto to what Cissy said. I think it depends a lot on what kind of dairy milk you drank previously. Skim users often like rice milk better because it's thinner, for example. Also, you can get sweetened or unsweetened varieties of most every kind of non-dairy milk, so if you find one is too sweet, check to see if it has some added sugars.

Also, I like different types for different things..baking vs. cooking or drinking or pouring on cereal, etc.

I'm partial to soy myself, but everyone likes something different. But if you thought almond milk was too rich, you might do well with plain rice milk or a rice/soy blend.

In richness of mouth feel, they seem to go in this order: soy>almond>rice. Dunno where quinoa would fit in, I've never heard of anyone making milk out of quinoa.

Also, if you find it too sweet, make sure you're getting an unsweetened variety.

I live in the UK and I buy mostly tesco's own soya milk, it tastes good and is pretty cheap too.

I'm totally addicted to Silk soy milks! For cereal, when I want a bit of sweetness I pour some vanilla silk in... for cooking I use plain... and when I've got a sweet tooth...Silk chocolate! (tastes like melted fudge-cicles) Everybody I know-veg or omni LOVES choc. Silk... even vanilla. Nobody knows the things I cook w/reg soy milk are vegan! Worth a try... I agree w/Cissy though, try different types, find what you like. Try different types for different things, too. Eventually you'll find what you like best for whatever purposes.
