Hey all,
I was wondering how does one go about calculating the calories of fresh produce? Thanks to all in advance :sunny:

Lots of different websites:
Nutitiondata (http://www.nutritiondata.com/index.html)
Calorie-count (http://www.calorie-count.com/)
Calorieking (http://www.calorieking.com/)
And most have the advantage of being able to pick the size of what you're eating("Large" banana, "one cup" raspberries, etc.). Nutritiondata has the most in-depth nutrition info, but all three give calorie content.

LOL, I can't personally think of a reason you'd want to take the fun out of eating fresh produce by calculating the calories of said produce. But never mind me....backs out of thread.

Easiest way is to get a good quality scale and using an online nutritional database that will adjust the nutritional information per the weight of whatever produce you have on hand.

I don't count fresh produce calories. I think you could pretty much eat 'em til you bust and still be fine for the day.

Counting calories for produce is being pennywise and pound foolish. If you're trying to lose weight, stop sweating the small stuff and concentrate on eating healthier options (including fresh produce) and exercising more.
I was overweight in high school. Being a boy with boobs was not fun. I got plenty "training bra" jokes. I lost all the weight by jogging every other day and eating 5-6 small meals a day. I didn't count calories, I didn't write down what exercises I did and when I did them, I just got up and moved.

Counting calories is time consuming but worth it if you want to know how much you are consuming. I have a book called The Diabetes Carbohydrate and Fat Gram Guide. I refer to it almost everyday. I measure everything right now. It adds up quickly too so I understand wanting to know this information. It's very helpful to know. For instance in my book 1/2 cup of beets is 136 calories so if you are trying to stay at a certain amount of calories for the day 136 could blow you out of the water if you are not measuring. Losing weight can be difficult specially when you have a family and many obligations you must meet. Good luck!

I don't think 136 calories of produce would "blow your diet" out the water. We're not talking an entire bag of Oreos here. Being so obsessed with calories that you would flip out over 1/2 cup of beets would make me really concerned as to whether you had healthy eating habits. It sounds very disordered to me.

LoL..it may sound like that...don't get me wrong I love to eat and I do.
I was using that as an example. It's sometimes hard to communicate when not in person..things get a little misunderstood at times..lol.
I'm physically limited with exercise so I'm not burning the calories I'm eating.
By counting calories I now have an idea how much I can eat without going over the limit that I can burn and hopefully lose the weight I gained with my last baby.
Peace,
Jen

I'm high raw and eat mostly fruits and veggies throughout the day. I think you can absolutely eat too many calories if you gorge all day. Calories are calories, too much is too much = weight gain.
That being said, everyone has a different formula for maintaining a healthy weight. Someone else with the same build as myself could consume the same amount of calories, fat vs. carb vs. protein and gain or lose weight. Genetics, metabolism, and activity level play a big part in it. Eventually you find your "level", as I finally have.
Counting calories, fat, protein and carb intake is an excellent way to learn how your body reacts to the intake. The key is not obsessing. Enter the amounts for the first week or two, and then check back every now and then to be sure your staying within the levels you want. You eventually learn how much in any given day is enough, just be "eyeballing it". It becomes second nature.
Being concerned about your health is not a problem. You should be eating small-varied meals throughout the day and exercising. If you find you are starving yourself, avoiding meals, or binging, that could indicate a problem.
I'm glad you are incorporating raw produce into your day, you'll find you're body will love you for it!
