View Full Version : What to do with stale cookies??

They're vanilla sandwich cookies. I found 2 2lb bags of them on clearance for .69 a piece and they just happened to be vegan! So I bought them. I opened one up and gave some to my kids, taped it shut and put it back. Apparently my husband decided to open the OTHER package and just left it opened. Then, the next day or so he decided to rip open the first package and left THAT one opened. Now I have two packages, one is half gone, both opened and stale. :grr: It's a good thing I love him or I'd probably :whack:.
So any ideas on what I can do with 2 lbs of stale cookies?? I hate to throw them out but they're not so yummy to eat. Blech.

topping for coffee cake? sometimes baking can refresh nuts and seeds, maybe that would work?

Crumble them up and toss them to the birds and/or squirrels?

I'm thinking pie crust. Crumble them up and add melted vegan margarine and squish it all into the bottom of a pie pan. Bake at like 350 till it browns (maybe 10 minutes or so). Then fill it with whatever filling you want.

Years ago I was great with extending the length of food and not allowing this to "go to waste". So, from when I used to bake, pie crust or crumble them and put them in a muffin mix.

You may be able to actually re-bake them...when my homemade cookies go stale, I put them in a moderate oven, say 350 - 375 degree oven and bake for 5-10 minute...it seems to take the moisture out of them that is making them soft and stale tasting and they crisp up nice and taste great...maybe it will work with store bought cookies as well....

My husband is guilty of the same thing more times than I can count. I've decided to let him live.....just cuz' he's kinda cute, but there is a limit to my patience!:notvegan:
Make some cornstarch pudding with chocolate soy milk. When cool make parfaits with the crumbled cookies. A layer of pudding, a layer of crushed cookies, a layer of pudding, etc.

Give them to my dog. She'll love them.
If I have something I don't want for whatever reason it either gets:
thrown out
given to my parents
given to my dog
thrown out on my balcony for the birds & Buddy (he's my visiting squirrel)
I would try the oven "refreshing" first, though!

any kind of stale product made with oil or shortning is a carcenogen. Make sure to gobble up a bunch of antioxidents before feasting on those stale cookies.
