It was on the wedding trip on the way back going through OH. I heard all the rooster crowing, I looked and saw all the little huts with individual roosters. I don't know what else it would have been. Is cock fighting legal in OH?.

I don't know, but I'm sure that Animal fights would be something Animal Welfare would be concerned about. Try to find an animal help group in OH that might know if it's legal. If it's illegal, they would know who to report them to also....
I really doubt it's legal. As I understand it, animal fights are illegal in all of the USA... Could be wrong, but I really think it's true. I love watching the animal planet station and everywere they show the animal cops it's illegal.

Well...I don't live in OH so I was just passing through. So I could only give the town I saw it in. Not much to go on if I wanted them caught.

I thought LA was the only state with legal cock fighting.

From watching the animal planet station, I know they must be caught in the act to get busted... Kinda sucks, but the animals cops there probably already know about it, but haven't caught the cock fights yet so no fines or taking of animals.

This depends on state law. According to this link (PDF File) http://www.hsus.org/web-files/PDF/Cockfighting_StateLaws_citations_June05.pdf
in Ohio it is a Misdemeanor to possess birds for fighting.

My suggestion would be to contact both the Humane Society in that county as well as the local police department and report what you saw.

my friends parents used to raise and breed chickens and they kept their roosters in seperate huts so they wouldnt breed the females and or fight with eachother.

LA (hangs head in shame) and I believe New Mexico are the only states that legalize it. It's horrible. They've tried banning it several times, but our :furious: law-makers -- fine, morally- upstanding leaders that they are! - won't approve it. It "brings money into the state."
Oh please!! They're more than likely lining their own pockets with some dirty, underhanded dealings involving cock fighting, so they're not about to approve a ban!

I pass a house on the way from work that has a yard full of fighting roosters bound to those little huts. He has two dogs on chains that protect the yard from anyone or thing entering from the street, because there's no fence. These dogs don't even have any shelter from the weather. No shade....nothing!!

Maybe they're being kept in bad conditions to where they would take them away anyway? To the OP-I'd definitly report it regardless, wouldn't hurt to.

there are lots of rooster farms here. cockfighting is illegal, but people are fairly open about it. cockfighting decals on their monster trucks.... I used to live next door to a small cock farm.

that totally sucked...

I have friends who raise rare breed chickens, and they keep all of their Roosters in separate boxes, and at times they get very vocal.
i would venture to guess, that with the rare bird hoby growing so quickly among hoby farm folks, that this far more likely what you saw.

They are raising "show birds" which is legal. Most "show bird" farms are actually fighting cock farms, though. Not all, but most. They have that distinctive look.
