So, I get ovarian cysts. One way to keep them at bay is to take birth control. Even though I haven't had sex in years and couldn't have kids even if I did (well, at least the old fashioned way), I take birth control. At my last OBGYN visit, I told her the pills were making me crazy and my breasts ached. She switched me to Nuvoring.
Putting it in was not the easy proceedure discribed on the box. Neither was removing it. Right before the time I needed to remove it, I was very, very depressed feeling and a cried for no reason. Once I took it out, that went away. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this or knows someone who has. What do you all make of it?

You can find my nightmare experience with the nuvaring in the women's health forum if you care to read it, but put briefly, it gave me a constant raging yeast infection, the locally delivered progestin triggered vulvar vestibulitis, I had headaches, moodswings, and generally felt miserable.

The only plus side to it was that it was the only hormonal birth control method I've ever used that didn't make me gain weight. As a matter of fact, I managed to lose five or ten pounds while on it, although I can't guarantee that there was any correlation between the two.

I've tried probably every birth control method out there. A bunch of different pills, the shot, the nuvaring, the patch, and now the IUD.

The nuvaring, I only used two cycles, I think (So 2 months.) I didn't have the emotional issues with it. I stopped using it because my 'giner's kind of shallow, and it was always RIGHT there. And when my boyfriend and I had sex, it'd catch on him and he'd end up pulling it out. So we'd have to take it out right before sex and put it back in right after. Very odd foreplay, lemme tell ya! :p

I'm not quite sure what kind of issue you had with putting it in. You just..squeeze it and put it in. Getting it out, you just put your finger in, hook it, and pull it out.
Sorry, I'm not much help!

I've got a rather small box, I guess. I don't even use tampons b/c of it.

Hmmm . . . it sounds like you were miserable, and misery is a good weight loss drug, imo. Thanks for your input. I don't think I'm going to use it again.

:stinkeye: I don't think I've ever heard a woman refer to her vagina as a "box" in a non-derogatory way. Interesting.

Good luck trying out various methods. My friend who gets ovarian cysts really likes the Mirena. Or mirvena. Or whatever that IUD is called.

Heh, thanks. Yeah, I only call it a box when I am referring to its capacity to hold things. :) Usually, I call it my cooch. I use other names, too, including the standard "vagina." Once time a woman told me that was horrible and I should only call it my vagina. She was really worked up. I think if you take your genital naming that seriously, you really gotta find a hobby.
