When I spent time in Colorado, the only thing to do was to work the heck out after you toured Coors land. Ah, but wrong city.

I am a little suprised by Dallas.

Poor Houston... my hometown nearly always gets voted fattest. As I understand it, it's not primarily because of the actual obesity of Houstonians, which is fairly unremarkable. It's basically the sum of all the other factors they list. Houston has a huge number of restaurants and bars; a severe lack of green space, public recreation opportunities, and natural geographic features that would encourage outdoor activities; brutal heat and humidity 6-8 months of the year; and terrible air quality.

Uhh, we do boast one of the nation's most heavily used jogging trails, for whatever that's worth... :shy:

I'm surprised NY is on the fattest list. I didn't expect them on the fittest list, but definitly not the fattest. I guess it kinda makes sense, but it kinda doesn't. I figured w/how many skinny celebs live there, plus the fact that many walk everywhere that overall they'd be fairly thin/average. Guess I was wrong.

Yay for San Diego! Seriously, just driving around any morning (weekdays and weekends) and seeing all those people running, walking, enjoying the day.. and in ALL sizes! Not everyone is skinny and fit. They all enjoy the outdoors or pack into the gyms. Food is great, too-- then factor in the fact that there's no smoking allowed in restaurants (I am so spoiled!), and you have a pretty healthy plan. There's a pretty decent array of vegetarian and vegan restaurants & restaurants with options: http://www.vegetarianusa.com/city/SanDiego.html

For a city to go from being 25th fattest to the fittest city makes me think their data collection process is flawed.

I used to live in Philly, and moved to NJ recently... an I definitely agree with the top ten Fattest city... It's not easy to see fit people while walking the city....

Albuquerque? Seriously. I remember hearing that on the news and I freaked out because last time I checked NM is the stupidest state (or close, we rank somewhere in 45-50 in the U.S. education charts), the 5th fattest state, and is just a horrible place to be. The last one is from personal experience... I dunno though, some people like it here... though I haven't found anyone who does.

Why Wooh? Apparently we are the fattest here - how embarrassing! (not me..I lost weight this year!) Maybe we need to be fatter here to keep us warmer through the sucky winters?

Good thing I am moving somewhere skinnier soon...

Last time I checked, Sacramento, San Francisco, and San Diego were all in CA. And the West Coast overall is looking pretty darn good.

Must be somewhere closer to the middle

As for NYC....

Manhattan is only part of NYC and skinny doesn't mean the same thing as healthy.

I had only looked at the first few posts-when the list posted was actually from 2004.

Yeah, I know. That's the one you quoted. It has three CA cities on it. The list from 2006, which you didn't quote, only has one.

I lost weight too. But, being the eternal optimist, I'm just glad we're the best at something :dunce:

I recently read that more people in Denver have health club memberships than any other city in the US.
