Who here has a Vita-Mix? I bought one a couple months ago and I love it! It took a while to find a green smoothie base that I could enjoy but now that I have I drink a pitcher every day.

Sometimes I put ice and a little water in it to make a slush. Can't beat it on a hot summer day! Other than that I haven't used it for much. I'm excited to try one of the soups though.

It was expensive and I never would have purchased one if I hadn't first seen one. I am so glad I did though, I feel like it was an investment in myself. :)

It's basically a very high powered blender. You can use it to make beverages, soups, breads, peanut butter, etc. I use mine mainly for green smoothies - smoothies that consist primarily of greens/veggies.

It's so powerful that you can bring fresh ingredients to a boil in 4-6 minutes. From the friction. That's what the book says, I haven't actually tried it yet.

Not yet. I had two recipes picked out though. One is tofu tomato soup, can't remember the other. Hopefully soon!

ahhhh. you have a vita-mix! -envious-

I've heard so many great things about the VM as well as the K-Tec.

Michael, I've never seen you blue before.

I have been buying a lot of fresh juices, I eat hummus like a fiend, love soup, yea I can justify purchasing one....

Michael could you speak to the cleaning and maintenance of it? Anything noteworthy?

There isn't really any maintenance. Cleaning is easy. Add 2 cups of warm water along with 2-3 drops of liquid dishwashing detergent and run on high for 30 seconds.

Plus there's a full 7 year warranty, that also played a part in my decision.

Has anyone made one of the soups that they really like? I just made the tofu tomato and :worried: I'm not a fan.

how does the soup making work, exactly? does it heat it?

I have a recipe for carrot ginger soup that requires a blender if you want.

it's sometimes worth shelling out extra cash if it saves you $ in the long term and is a quality product.

Have you tried the recipe? How strong is the ginger flavor? I'm usually not too fond of ginger. I might try it though, I just bought a bag of carrots.

I ran it for 4 minutes and the soup was hot (about the temperature at which I like to eat soup). The only hot thing that went into it initially was a sauteed onion.

yes. it's my own recipe, that i made up when I accidently froze a big bag of baby carrots and when I defrosted them they were mushy.

so all the soups are more creamy then... not like stews, right?

carrot, apple and carmelised onion are flavors that work well together, IMO. you could try that and leave out the ginger altogether.

I think they're all smooth and creamy. I suppose you could prepare the soup and then stir in chunks of stewed vegetables or whatever else you wanted.

acorn squash and almond milk for creaminess would be yummy.

I think I might have to splurge.

Well, if you do and you use my code you'll get free shipping - 06-001854.

The only thing is, be sure you'll use it to do things your normal blender won't do. When I first tried green smoothies they didn't taste very good so I started using the Vita-Mix for fruit smoothies. Then it occurred to me that I was using a $400 blender to do something my $50 blender was doing. :dunce: So I started fooling around with the green smoothies and finally found some that I like. Now I have a pitcher every day.

So if you think you'll use it it's well worth it. It has the 7 year warranty and it comes with a really nice recipe book (all color pages and a binder).
