View Full Version : Itchy Legs When Running...

Hey all. Whenever I run outside in the spring/summer I get horribly itch legs. It is the weirdest sensation, and it is impossible not to scratch, even though that usually just makes it worse. I'm thinking about avoiding running now because the sensation is just so unpleasant. My legs arent overly dry, and it is usually slightly humid when i run so i have no idea what to do! Any ideas/insight?

Check with your doctor. Sounds like a circulatory thing to me, increased blood flow to the area and all. The same thing happens to me sometimes when I jog.
<<not a runner :p

Are you wearing clothing which is too tight on your legs?

Wow, never have heard of that one. I've been a runner before, but that one's new to me. I think you should speak to a doctor also.
Just wondering, do you have restless leg symptoms also? I would think it might go in hand with that. Not too sure, but I think dr. visit should be in your thinking.

I'm not an expert but it sounded like poor circulation to me as well.
You might also want to check over at Cool Running...

I sweat enough, not excessively or anything, wear no lotion, but i don't drink enough water, i admit.
I've never had any problems with restless leg syndrome, and i'm very healthy, so i'm somewhat hesitant to see a doctor.... still stumpted

I get this problem, too. I know I have poor circulation (always have) I also may have probs w/RLS... not sure though, since my legs are only restless every so often... I should prolly talk to my doctor about all this... anyway.. I'm very interested in what ppl have to say about this...

I have a friend who has this issue. It's an allergy of sorts with her. When she takes her OTC Claritin, everything is fine. Give it a try?

hmm this has never happened to me BUT two days ago i was taking a walk with my mom and by the end of it my legs itched so bad i wanted to cry. I went into the house washed my legs with soap and water and they were good. Realized later i hadnt taken my allergy pill so it was probably all the pollon in the air.
Do you have allergies?
edit: didnt see the second page :bobo:

As an avid, very active hockey player, I actually never have the problem when I play hockey (I just turn very red). However, if I run I do encounter this problem. According to my doctor (and be aware that it might not be the same condition), this was due to being hyperventilated due to asthma. My legs would turn somewhat itchy and somewhat numb. I would definitely recommend going to the doctor and perhaps having a stress test, which might give them a better look at what's happening.

I think it's allergy too. I itch a lot and always just thought it was dry skin. But when I started to itch when the weather isn't dry anymore, I asked around. Several told me it's due to allergy.

when I run my toes go numb, as in I can not feel them anymore same thing happens when I skae or bike etc.
Running or jogging though but my legs itch but it is kind of like a dulled sensation if you know what I mean, as if my legs are partly numb as well.
I have no allergies other than some foods.
