My husband is omni. He fully supports my vegan dietary choice, and he eats what I make every night (we don't have any meat, dairy or eggs in the house) but when he is out during the day, he eats whatever he wants.

My problem only arises when it comes to our kids. Yesteray we were shopping and he said "What about Kaila's lunch?" (she is out of school for the summer now) I replied that she would be fine, he replied what about sandwiches, I replied again, she will be fine, he replied yea, but she needs meat sometimes.

???? NEEDS meat?? Then we got in the whole protein debate. Ugh. I won, of course, but I did get some veggie bologna slices and some veggie dogs, just for the sake of argument.

But what do you usually do in this situation? I am new to this (only been just over a month) so I could use some examples from seasoned veg*ns.

My hubby is also eats mostly veg, because thats how i shop, cook, and there isnt any meat in the house! so for meals at home, and also his work lunches he is vegetarian, but when we eat out or are out somewhere he may eat meat so I call him omni.
BUT, he never questions vegetarianism for the kids, he doesnt think they need meat........he fully supports it. He never says anything like that, but if he did I would show him what they like and how it replaces meat.......how they get what they need for veg food.

my mom is like that, everytime she comes to visit she insists my kids NEED meat! drives me crazy!

I agree I also dont want to confuse the kids, and i certainly dont want a mommy is right daddy is wrong or vice versa situation regarding what we eat.
so the rule here is we are vegetarian but when we are out somewhere if the kids want chicken for instance they can have it, i let them choose for themselves, my dd will most often choose chicken, but my ds usually just chooses a veg option.

eekamax--
i can't really relate because, lucky for me, my husband was already veggie when i met him...i think its great that you're thinking about this ahead of time, before a big conflict comes up...hope you and your husband can work something out that you'll both be happy with...

there are a couple of other threads on this forum that talk a little about this--look at "do your kids want to eat meat" and "doesn't care where hotdogs come from"...ok, those aren't the exact titles, but you'll see them...
