wow I have a lot to catch up on, been litter picking at the big green gathering which I would definitely recommend! Is anyone going to the Camp for Climate Action? I haven't actually checked if there's a thread on this in activist discussion but it's gonna be great, a lot of publicity already!

They just sent me a very strange email and it sounds way to good to be true.
TIA
Hey, I just received an e-mail like this from these guys saying that I inherited money from some old man in England that I've never met or even heard of (I don't even think I have relatives in England) Did you guys find out anything about them? (I stumbled across this page while searching for them).
So, is anyone heading in this weekend to the London Vegan Festival (http://www.vegancampaigns.org.uk/festival/index.html)?

I'm going to a rugby match in Cardiff this weekend. I've been to a couple of those vegan festivals and they're cool and all but I never stay more than an hour. Great for newbies, though.

i had a look at that site a few days ago but i noticed there's a ''minimum 6-month tenancy agreement'' and i only want to stay 2 months or maybe even less. i just found these sites:
http://www.1stcontact.com/live/index.php
http://www.quickstartuk.com/
i think i'll try to use them , they seem legit... someone from an immigration forum told me about them:
Oh, 1stcontact really helped me out when I first moved to the UK 10 years ago. Good company and they really know what they are talking about not to mention cost effective.

don't know whether I missed someone else saying this, but: ecover tests on animals :( :( The Vegan Society is withdrawing their symbol from ecover packaging. I don't know whether this is a new change or whether they just found out about it. I don't have a source right now (I got it from a mailing list) and I have to go out, I'll look it up later. I'm still hoping I'm wrong.

i just googled for it:

waterfleas are one thing, but the farmed rabbit blood is not anywhere near to being cool. neither are some of the amusing replies/comments to the daily mail story. hmmm... gotta love the general public.
eta: found statment on ecover site with a more indepth explaination.
http://www.ecover.com/gb/en/News/Details.htm?ID=147
etaa: it seems their C.E.O is now offering his own blood in place of the rabbits:

still no word on a flea replacement though.

My family have always used ecover products, must say i'm disappointed in hearing this. And as for the comments on that page... *rolls eyes*

Aw crap :-/
Anyone else here get their A-Level/GCSE results? I got BCC, which I'm quite proud of because I was really ill during exams and thought I'd failed everything  And it's enough to get me into the college course I want (art foundation) so it's all good.
The only thing I'm worried about is when I visited the college all they had was ivory black oil paint, which is made from charred animal bones, so I'm going to have to be the strange one who brings their own tube of paint in :surprised
Color me disappointed as well. Why are these tests even necessary? All of the ingredients have already been proven to be safe, yes? Argh.
Anyone else here get their A-Level/GCSE results?
Yeah, I got A, B, D
My 1st choice still let me in after much confusion. Apparantly my grades put me in a grey area and I got in because loads of people deferred their entry at the last minute. But, it still counts as in so --> :nana:

I got ABC! It's better than I'd expected but I wish I'd done better. I got into my first choice university (York) though, so no complaining here!

I'm glad that ecover wont be using the rabbit blood any more.
I don't know enough about waterfleas to make a call on that one. Are they sentient? Do they feel pain? Are these questions belonging more in the heap than the UK thread? But I'll probably err-on-the-side-of-caution and avoid it, like with bees and stuff. Poor fleas :(

Well done on your A-levels
I'm not sure about water fleas...I guess if there's no other option to buy it's the lesser of two evils, but still
Has anyone here ever used Lush's toothpaste? I'm thinking about trying it since it'll be the easiest vegan toothpaste for me to get hold of regularly, but my mum claims stuff "like that" won't protect your teeth properly (just because it's not Colgate, I think :grr:). And the vanilla one sounds really nice, I've never been a big mint fan.
Congrats to all on the test results! I'm so glad that the test-taking part of my life is in the past (I hope).
wrt toothpaste, shantih, you might be able to get some vegan stuff at a local chain store. Around here, Waitrose and Sainsbury both carry Kingfisher, Boots has it as well. I've seen a couple of Tom's of Maine things too, but I can't remember where.

Our local Waitrose has gone awol, hence why I'm searching the market :( I didn't think of looking in Sainsburys though, we've got one in town but I never go there for some reason.
Hang on, I remember why now. It's next to the butchers  I'll have to hold my nose.
