I think I missed the beginning, I only saw it on TV and there was a problem with my video, I've been watching it quite a few times but only from the 'eat my shorts' bit as it didn't record before that. What was the opening music? The closing music gets in my head though. And the song 'we are not alone' with the weird weird dancing.

It`s a daaaaaaaaamn catchy song:

Simple Minds - Don't You Forget About Me.

Oh right that's the closing music too! yeah it is damn catchy... 'don' don' don' don' don't you...forget about me' ...and he kisses her...and aww...and the earring...and they're all equal...

It's a movie that I don't want to like (I still don't like the alison bit, she looks like a ragdoll at the end dammit!) but you don't have a choice. You have to like it.

P.S. Bender rules...(if you hadn't already gathered that). He's such a softie really (but far too old to be in high school of course).

Kate, do you want to meet up for the Animal Aid thing (Fi too of course)? Providing I'm not away but if I volunteer at Big Green Gathering (litter picking in return for a ticket) I should be back after the 5th or 6th of August so it should be OK. We can meet up before then of course but it's just a suggestion.

They also use it at the end of the film, during Brian's voiceover:

I did the hand in the air thing from the end yesterday for some reason without even thinking. Wow that film has a lot of cultural influence.

Why have you been there? Was that your own high school? Or was it a BC pilgrimage (do they do tourist parties? do they let you climb in the air vents?)? I've been to the bookshop and café in Paris in Before Sunset...

Heh. It's in suburban Chicago. It was the director John Hughes' highschool. They shot pieces of Ferris Bueller's Day Off there too, so it is a bit of a tourist spot. They actually shot the football field part at another school in Chi area, but it's no longer a school.

I've been to the bookshop that they use the outside shots for in the Britcom Black Books. It is easy to find in the Bloomsbury area. And I've been to Portmeirion in Wales aka "the village" from that Patrick McGoohan showThe Prisoner (you know "you are number 6" "I am not a number, I am a free man" business). Spiderman even has the black jacket with white trim like he wears in the show. *geek*

But Jen, i bow to you---I am a HUGE Breakfast Club fan. Shermer HS, you rock.

I really want to watch the beginning again, up to the 'eat my shorts' bit where I recorded from...crappy video.

I was watching the rest yesterday in bits when I neede to relax after my art exam...ok so some of it's not relaxing but it is fun, and Bender's smile cheers me up! The dancing bit definitely raised my spirits...weird and definitely homoerotic but good fun! Sorry Erica, I'm going to be in Hungary when the Animal Aid thing is in Newcastle :(

I'm going here, though, so it's not so sad (http://sziget.hu/festival_english)

Anyone else read the article in the Daily Record dwelling into veggie eatings, after this whole Masterfoods scandal? I liked it. Pretty informing for all those omnis out there.

I found a copy of it on their site:

<<needs to educate herself on Brit TV. :D I've heard of "The Prisoner", but I've never watched it.

YouTube shouldn't be blocked at VB. Michael's even added a feature where you can embed YouTube videos right into your posts.

On a random note...last night the news was showing this video/DVD that was released by Madeline McCann's family. The music in the video..."Don't You Forget About Me". Very chilling.

On another note, I was disappointed to read of the following exchange between Oxford West's MP and the Deputy PM wrt animal rights issues. Prescott says that they are working on a DVD to submit for use in schools. Do you suppose that pro-AR folks are going to be able to submit videos as well?

Tonight (Thurs 24th May) on BBC2 at 7:00 pm Race Hate in Louisiana
Tom Mangold uncovers the truth behind allegations that racism still exists in the Deep South and investigates how far race relations have progressed since the sixties. Some upsetting scenes

Everyone at my school where I teach are buzzing because they can't believe this is really true. i keep telling them, but they don't believe me. THIS is why I ran away from Louisiana.

The town of Jena is about 30 minutes away from my hometown. Black students had to ask permission from the headteacher to sit in the shade of the tree where the white kids were allowed to sit (and blacks had never been allowed before). they got permission and the next day there were 3 nooses hung on the tree as a sign not to try and sit there again. There ARE still lynchings in Louisiana--made to look like accidents or not prosecuted fully so this is a real threat. How can this be in this day and age??? But it is.

So watch it if you dare. And don't visit Louisiana if you can help it.

We too, saw the post later in the evening. It actually replayed at 11:50, but I didn't see that until this morning. I'm not surprised at the actions of the students, but I must admit that the "whites only" tree was unexpected. Ugh. There's a snippet about the story here on BBC's site: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/this_world/6685441.stm

In unrelated news :p, I wanted to post that I tried this new washing up liquid that's really good. It's by Faith in Nature, is citrus-scented and works great on the grease/plastic, which has been a problem for me with other eco-friendly soaps. I was going to post a link to it on their site, but for some reason, they only have the dishwasher liquid listed. Anyway, just thought I'd share. :)

Jeez o pete. Two fighter jets just went flying by the flat, so close that everything on the window ledge was shaking. They came back for a couple of more passes. Grr.

At least I got to meet some of the neighbors, as they too, were all staring out their windows and looking up from their gardens, saying "wtf".

Apparently it's National Veggie Week but I haven't heard anything about it, I just found a leaflet in the house - I gave it to my friend (/crush...sigh) as he wants to be veggie but can't seem to stick at it.

I told him he'd be a good veggie and he said he likes cooking veggie food, it's just when he goes round to friends' houses he doesn't want turn down their cooking. I guess he has to make his own decision though...now if only someone would tell me if he likes me or not.

Anyway happy veggie week everybody! :vebo:

Im in Wales, havnt always been, im still kind of new to this place, iv lived in and around the midlands for most of my life. Just fancied living by the sea for a change so here i am.

Iv found one veggie restaurant in Swansea that has a few vegan dishes and theres a wonderful veggie and vegan cafe in Swansea which is also a bookshop, new age kind of shop and theres yoga classes, alternative health courses etc. The food there is good there, only place if found round here that does vegan deserts.
