There were two letters promoting vegetarianism in the Metro paper yesterday in response to Gordon Ramsay's programme where he was apparently talking about how nice horse meat is...I haven't read today's paper but I bet there'll be a backlash unfortunately, there always is.

Any updates on t'London situation?

Heh. At Waitrose and Sainsbury's near hear, there are "world food" sections, or something cheesy like that, where they have salsa. There are a few in the refrigerated section next to the hummus too, but I've not found them to be good.

I was just reading on another board about a good Mexican store in London, I'll have to check and report back. :p

The Fresh and Wild near Oxford Circus had salsa too, when I was there a good while ago.

Cool Chili Company is the place recommended on the other site (by someone from Mexico ). She said it's in the Borough Market.

I bought salsa in asda it was vegan!
asda is **** but i had a voucher card thingy from taking my tv back

omg
i was in there day before yesterday
bought just normal food, had £35 on my card so thought it would be enough. (normal shopping also includes booze hehe)
and it came to £45 so i had to pay part by real money
i thought that was loooads but shrugged it off cause my boyfriend likes to put random crap in the basket
then looked on the recipt on the way to the car
halfway down the list was a £16.95 roast turkey!!!!!
wtf!
so i went back and said wtf, and they searched my bags to check it wasnt in there (yeah i can hide a turkey underneath the tofu) and i got the money back yay.
still made me lol though
lets try make a vegan pay for a huge turkey!
i dont get how you can accidently put that through and not notice O_o i couldnt see anything else missing so nothign was mislabelled!

then i came home, opened my fridge to put stuff in and my housemate had cooked a whole chicken, which was just sat in the fridge. which made me lol more hahah

ooohhh the excitement in my life

pf, that is tooo funny! There is an old music video where some guy (dressed in drag) stuffs a turkey in his dress, so that he looks like a pregnant woman. Maybe they thought you were trying to pull something like that. :p

Now I'm wondering about "super melting" Cheezly. I didn't know there was more than one kind!

Did anyone watch Eurovision tonight? I must admit to being a bit fascinated. The Finn metal bare-chested cellists had to be my favorite. Um, yeah. :D

Well, I'm from Blackpool. Yup - That tacky tourist town!!! With the tower!!!

At the end of my teacher training course in Wolverhampton, the blokes in my year decided to all go on a day trip to celebrate. We discussed where would be the best non educational, lowbrow place within reach and we unanimously chose...............Blackpool!
The only thing I remember about the trip is seeing Ken Dodd on the beach with his tickling stick. :)

oh yeah. I wasn't going to watch it and then my friend Kevin phoned me up and invited me over to watch it. I was like:
But I went anyway.
I liked Greece and Belarus. And the UK.
Hey, we didn't get zero points! We didn't even come last! :nana: :D

Is this the video? Been caught Stealing by Jane's Addiction http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rc53eG1Gbv0

Yep. That's the one. I couldn't remember who sang it. Looking at it, I'm not sure if he actually stuffs the turkey up, he might just consider it. I'd forgotten about the "broccoli cheerleader". When I worked at Meijer, my friend Kristy and I used to goof around with the produce ala the broccoli gal. Good times.

iso..we liked Belarus too (they were the drummers, right?), but our favorite had to be the Ukraine. Poor Ireland coming last, after they gave their pts. to the UK. :p

After visiting all sorts of "British" things here, this is what makes me feel like one of the crowd...I got to watch something uniquely European.

(we even tele-voted :sealed:)

Looks kinda omni-friendly, even.

If anyone's around....

Channel 4 news is about to air a piece about Masterfoods and the addition of whey to their candy.

IamJen
05-14-07, 08:34 AM
Most excellent 3-4 minutes, including a description of the problem, that the items contain whey. They explained that it's made with help of an enzyme from calves' stomachs, so it's not vegetarian.

Best part though...they're interviewing the head lady (not sure what her real title is) from the Vegetarian Society, and there is this exchange (roughly):

Reporter: "Well, there are vegetarians and there are vegetarians. It's sort of a sliding scale. I mean, what are...how many people do you think would avoid a product because of this ingredient? "

Veg Lady: "I think there are many who would avoid..."

Reporter, talking at same time: "I mean there are vegetarians who eat fish and things..."

Veg lady: "Well, anyone who eats fish isn't a vegetarian. But, I think that there are many people who would avoid....."

On the national news, we heard "fish isn't vegetarian". Preach it, sister!

Yay the Animal Aid thing's coming to Newcastle (9 August)!

I have too much Cheezly right now, grr. My mum bought 4 poackets reduced...it isn't really nice without being melted though, it's too squishy but not squishy enough if that makes sense.

Oh and Tesco's red pepper houmous has now got pesto (avec cheese) in it :(
Houmous is supposed to be reliably vegan!

Your avatar always makes me think of the opening music to The Breakfast Club :P CLASSIC!!

I think I missed the beginning, I only saw it on TV and there was a problem with my video, I've been watching it quite a few times but only from the 'eat my shorts' bit as it didn't record before that. What was the opening music? The closing music gets in my head though. And the song 'we are not alone' with the weird weird dancing.
