Late August would be okay for us, but the Vegan Festival is probably out (maybe). I'm planning nearly a month holiday, and we'll just be getting back the week before then, so it will be time to rest after being on vacation. :p

Do you know many vegans already? How scattered or localized are they?
Are you to be seen on VeggieVision?
Whats that like, is it easy to access or do we need special software configured etc?

A 5am post written wide awake as though it were a 5pm post !! yeehah!! :hamster:

To the above and one and all, my social life is really screwed as in I don't have one, so I guess make up your own mind there. But to hell with it anyway as I'm going Paris at an unspecified time (as my first escape from home in some years, especially abroad --BLEEP, WHAT THE BLEEP!! :grr:).
I kind of begrudge not ever going anywhere and seeing you all going off places, but why I don't is because I have strict/discerning food hygiene issues or more generally I don't have enough people 'knowing of my situation and my outlook'.... I don't know though maybe it only takes meeting one understanding or similar person.

But I'll tell you all, when lonely, yes life is BORING, but I don't want to go from one boring to another. I mean, does nobody have a castle to rent ? :p Many an event could be held there. :guitar:
Maybe AFTER having been to Paris I will see social gatherings and wotnot in a more approachable/ more inviting/ more practical and productive light.

The Mighty Strikes Again... Mighty lonely that is.

I know there aren't many of us Geordies on here but in case anyone is visiting in the future I found a new café in Newcastle yesterday called Scrumpy Willow and the Singing Kettle. Unfortunately it isn't vegetarian but it does have veggie and vegan dishes including dahl with vegetables and also some vegan cakes. I had some very yummy choc/date and walnut/carrot cake (all in one!) which was vegan. They have soya milk to go with hot drinks as well, and they seem to have a good ethos (apart from the meat dishes, which were more numerous than I expected from their flier, but I couldn't smell meat or anything, that said it was quite quiet though), they had fairtrade fruit, lots of organic stuff and they had Resurgence magazine to read as well. It's quite small but it has an upstairs and a downstairs and it has a nice feel to it. They have a website which even has a little forum but I don't think it's been updated since they opened....

hee hee! I used to wear a banana clip on my face to look like Geordi La Forge!

Brunhilda--I am digging that new avatar.

edited to add: I just saw your Carmen sandiego tagline. You rock Jen.

Ha ha yeah Geordies are people from Newcastle and the region around it (don't call them it in Sunderland though because there's some serious regional rivalry). There was a link to it at the top of that Geordi La Forge page actually...I don't really identify with the term even though I was born here but it's easier to use than 'people from Newcastle'!

Do you say "champion" and "nightmare" ??

On radio 4s Museum of everything--their Geordies all say that.

I say those words occasionally I suppose...I thought everyone said 'it's a nightmare' when you're stressed...champion is a Geordie or at least North-East thing I guess but I don't say it. I don't even have a proper Geordie accent, people used to call me posh (I'm not posh!) and at my Southampton interview the guy (who also told me not to go onto the Common to see the Urban Wildlife Centre in the middle of the day - I did) asked me if I was Irish!

people around here definitely say "champion" a lot. I say it very occasionally.

Erica, that place you linked to looks good. It seems like the kind of place that would have cool vegan options but that I could also take my grandma to without her being freaked out. And the kind of place that my wholefoods-cooking-localfood type omni aunt would like, I might drag her there one day.

My granddad says "champion", I love it

Not many "nightmares" around here though :|

anyone have anything to say about the Scottish spoiled vote scandal?
I think it's terrible. Effectively, possibly as many as 100,000 people didn't get to vote. I understand that people can't be totally coddled into filling in the forms correctly and there are likely to be people who wont get it right. But if that many people can't fill it in correctly, there is something wrong with the system.

I don't get how so many messed up.

The voting page was simple, and the instructions were clear and took you step-by-step through everything you needed to do. One candiate in one column, one in the other, 1-2-3 on the other sheet.

What was there to mess up? :S

Saying that, I betcha my vote was one of the ones that got cancelled. XD

I'm not in Scotland so I didn't actually see the instructions or anything. It doesn't sound THAT complicated to me, to be honest, but OTOH just the fact that so many papers were spoiled shows there obviously WAS something wrong. From what I've heard on BBC News 24, sounds like some polling stations were verbally giving out incorrect information on how to fill it in. :-/

Uh oh minority government :/

It was very weird yesterday, not to be voting on an election day. I was surprised that, around these parts, it seemed to be an almost non-event.
