Animal Farm series
http://www.channel4.com/science/microsites/A/animal_farm/
Starts Monday 19th March, channel four, 9pm :
Over recent years, GM, cloning and tissue engineering have been advancing
and are poised to change how we live forever.
Animal Farm is a new three-part series that brings together many of these
experiments under one genetically modified roof. Presented by Olivia Judson
and Giles Coren, the series delves behind the headlines to offer viewers a
unique look at the science fiction that is fast becoming science fact.
The first programme in the series investigates the extraordinary creatures
that can be produced using sex alone. From the cows with double the muscle
mass of the ordinary bovine counterparts, to the chickens completely devoid
of feathers, this is breeding on a whole new level. The programme also looks
at claims that GM food could help save our dwindling fish stocks with the
revolutionary ‘Super Salmon’ and checks out ‘golden rice’, a genetically
modified rice that has been fortified with beta-carotene that, its creators
believe, has the potential to end blindness in the developing world.

Anyway I went to Southampton and found the cafe but it was just sghutting early so I had to take stuff out...the woman who served me made the food and she's vegan, it's all vegan when she's in so that's nice. I had a cold pastie and some choc cake, the cake was actually quite bland but the pastie was nice. It's really small but they also have books for sale and tarot readings and things...and they have vegan Organica white chocolate so I had some of that, I didn't know you could get vegan white! It was really nce actually, I'm pretty sure we don't sell it where I work. They were closing so I didn't get a look at the rest of the menu, sorry, but I think it is worth going to, not far away from the city centre, off Bedford Place.
I also found other places that I looked up like October Books, which is a bookshop co-operative in Portswood with radical postcards and a huge selection of alternative books and also eco cleaning products . And I bought Vegan views from there, didn't know about that magazine before, and I made sure to prominently display it when reading it ont he train!
I also found the Beatnik emporium instead of going to the city art gallery...oops! I got some nomads trousers for only a fiver and a bandana and a bracelet which were cheap...it's a vintage clothes shop, quite small some bits look a little more commercial but I liked the shop as a whole.

It was Southampton uni, (for a place not a job!) just an informal interview, it was fine and I got an offer, I liked a lot of Southampton actually, better than I thought I would. And I met a vegan who was one of the environmental sciences current students...except she was eating a cheese sandwich. She said she felt bad but it was free (a buffet lunch provided by uni) so she wasn't buying it...so she is probably not really vegan most of the time! But it was still nice to meet her.
Yeah the journey was pretty tedious and I thought I was gonna miss my connecting train and be homeless in Birmingham (which I accidentally referred to as the second biggest city in the world... ) due to a delay but I didn't. And my train back the next day (I stayed overnight in halls or it wouldn't have been worth it) came in at 1.30 am as it didn't leave London till 9pm. I wished I was staying over in London...wow I went on the underground on my own as well. Hoping to escape the UK probably in the future, although there is some good stuff here, but no just escaping Newcastle for now (it's not a bad place but I want a change for uni).
It is snowing here! SNOW! on March 19th!
Okay, that's all I have to say. :)

Snow???? We had hail yesterday but no snow. Jinkies!
I'm in Oxfordshire. It only lasted about 15 minutes, but it was definitely snow. I even went outside to look more closely. :)
Now, the sun is shining bright. Time to go run errands.
Snow in Birmingham yesterday too - it was so odd, a complete blizzard for about 10 minutes, then the sun came out and it looked like summer!
Walking home from uni in a hailstorm today though - not so fun.
10 minutes it took me to gather up my stuff, put on some extra socks and now..a deluge of hail. It's hitting the windows and cars outside.
Beyond it to the west, I can see clear, sunny blue sky.
Geez, this weather is weird.

We had a huge hailstorm for about 20 minutes ---so much so that the ground was completely white and now it is snowing. Big flakes that i can see the snowflake patterns from my window. But they are not sticking. What the heck is going on here??????

^ When my parents got married it snowed for a bit apparently, in may 1985. gotta love random british weather!
I missed the snow the otehr day =( i think? Apparently in gloucestershire it was snowing quite heavy, so in bristol it probably did but i slept most of the day and when i was awake didnt check out the window. my mum in london phoned me and was like "omg it snowed!!!!!!" no faiiiir. ive barely got any snow this year. did for a bit but again it was in glos (where my boyfriend lives) - is bristol like, anti snow or something?!
last year i made a snowcat, that was in march actually (And er, in glos again hah). i also got frostbite in one of my fingers and couldnt feel the tip for 6 months, so maybe its a good thing it hasnt snowed hahah.
