Ahh, the beauty of being retired when its snowing outside..

Last night I put a large candle under the wildbirds water bowl and this morning its successful, so the birds are enjoying warm water and not iced up..

Poppy stop gloating!

Still snowing here, the dogs have all been out in it - they love it the nutters. My old greyhound who never ever sits - yep sat in it!

Heh. When I was walking at the park, there was this couple walking with a cute little black&white dog. When they got to the edge of the sidewalk (which had been shoveled), the dog was freaking out about stepping into the snow. He would put one paw down, then pull it back, then another/back, then look at his humans. :) Finally, the woman just picked him up (much to the relief of the dog, I suspect).

Some shots from around town today. In the panorama by the river, you can see folks building snowmen!

One more..with a tale to tell...

I was sitting, chilling in the park by the river when these ducks started to approach. They got *very* close, apparently expecting that I had some treats for them. One of them kept quacking and come close and then retreating. Finally, I said (out loud) something like "I'm sorry, I don't have any bread today". I swear the front two turned on their heels and started walking away at that very instant. Who knew that ducks spoke English? :p

OK, infant/primary schools are still cancelled today so i don't go into work, but secondary schools are open so spiderman has to go to work. Boo hoo! I was looking forward to another day home together!

We had such a blast in the snow yesterday. It doesn't snow much in Louisiana (in my lifetime 1974 and 1981) so this was the first real you can make a snowman snow we've seen in a long time. I made a snowman and a snow hedgehog with twigs for spines, but some yobs kicked it down and stomped my hedgehog. Grrrrrr. I watched them from my window.

I've never had school cancelled because of snow in my life :( I didn't even realise they did that in England...

Does it snow a lot in Newcastle? We're near London and it doesn't snow much here. It has snowed every winter for the past 3 years that we've lived in the UK but it was just a dusting (really no more than 1/4-1/2 inchdeep)and was always melted by playtime. This is the first time we've had school cancelled because it was 6-8 inches deep.

we get snow every year, but never particularly deep. I am really bad at estimating that kind of thing though. Not this year, but in the past, we've had snow that lasted a few days though. And we get hail and all that bad stuff. :brood:

Sometimes we get "oops-some-kind-of-dangerous-plant-just-exploded-and-the-air-is-full-of-dangerous-gases" days though and get to stay off school (well, okay, we've only had that twice and the first time it happened at the end of the school day so we didn't get to stay off and we had to walk home through it. and also ity's no fun because you have to stay indoors) :brood:

Ah. Snow days are the best. I well telling my love that there was this whole ritual. Sis and I in jammies, watching the crawler at the bottom of the TV screen..."Allendale Public, Caledonia Public Schools, Grand Rapids Christian Schools, Grand Rapids Public Schools...", etc. All the while, we're hoping with all of our earthly willpower "say Holland Public! say Holland Public!" Finally, after "Holland Area Intermediate" and "Holland Christian", the blessed words would appear! High-fives, screaming, and eventually, well, going back to bed.

Later, we'd get up and put on our 7 layers of clothes (you think I'm kidding). We'd rush outside and play until our hands were freezing. Dripping and rosy-cheeked, it was back inside for hot chocolate and maybe some cookies even. We tried to watch TV, but there were only soap operas and "baby shows" (PBS) on our 4 channels. So, it was back outside to hit trees with sticks, and look for deer tracks. I once even lost my sister temporarily, when she fell down in a snow pile over the size of her head.

Ah. Good times.

^ What do you mean?

We did the exact same thing, but with the radio. Luckily now my best friend's mum works in the school so I got a call at 7:30 about it and went straight back to bed.

My Grandma said the weather was very cold in Lancaster, but didn't have snow.

In North London the snow pretty thick, went past our shoes. The fields looked amazing.

We had looooads of snow here in Hatfield :) I was so excited!! I hadn't seen snow like this since I was about 4! *_* I tried to make snow-things but my gloves are rubbish and I managed to kill my hands so that wasn't very successful. PAIN.

All melted now but it was purrrrty while it lasted (before it turned into that icky grey mushy ice stuff... bleh...)
