Are you just getting in everywhere? :)
haha, I hope so! :D no but seriously, I think I will get a rejection from York. But I have to have an interview before they can tell me that.
Eds is beautiful, great city, great museums etc, good party atmosphere. I know little about the university itself, but the place is pretty cool. And yes, it is worth paying the entrance fee for the castle.
I have been (twice) briefly, and this was definitely the impression I got of the place. It's definitely beautiful :smitten:

Nottingham. What's it like?
I've never been, but from what I've seen it appears VERY veg*n friendly.

I've only been once, but I managed to find a resturant with good veg*n options pretty fast.

Fairly off topic, but yesterday I discovered that Tesco's has dairy free "dairy" chocolate rice crispy bars. They taste very alike to dairy chocolate, I think I'm in love :smitten:

Any one here from round Warrington (half way between Liverpool and Manchester) sorry but no way am i reading the whole thread to find out.
On the choclate thing, Morrisons do a free from section with loads of stuff i can eat (dairy allergic vegan) including one week 6 different types of choclate. Although the point has been made i that I can't remeber what 'real' choclate tastes like.

I thought hunting had been BANNED in this country?!! Yeah, right! I felt sick watching the news on Boxing Day. What a bl**dy waste of time that was saying it was going to be banned! I thought it was too good to be true.

Yeah.
I saw that on the news round my nans house. They all parading round the street in thier gear but "HUNTING BAN" flashing at the bottom... arrest the bastards!

On the hunting front, why not write a letter to your local paper? I'm writing one comparing the flagrant flouting of the anti-hunting law to bands of hoodies proudly taking drugs in the street and encouraging children to do the same while the police do nothing about it.

For UK chocolate, my wife runs a chocolate business producing all sorts of chocolates from scratch. She has loads of vegan chocolates and all the chocolate is fair trade. She gladly does custom orders. If there is a chocolate you can't find. she can probably make it for you. I dont want to spam the board but if anyone's interested PM me.

Just seen in the Newark Advertiser that after a twenty year old ban, the local council have let the hunt scum start their hunt from Newark market place in the new year. Next year I will be there with a few friends, mark my words, protests will begin now!!.

The new law is a farce.

Is the "twenty year old ban" a local thing?

The twenty year ban came about when the local labour council banned it, doesnt say why in the paper.

RE: the hunt.

Hah. Hunting has never been truly banned. Please write to as many papers as possible and make as much of a fuss as possible, I know a large amoutn of people who go hunt sabbing and still have to basically because it still goes on.

Hi there, I only just found this board!

I'm originally from the Black Country, but I moved to Stoke on Trent about 6 months ago - does anyone know of any good vegetarian/vegan restaurants near there? There seems to be one or two, mainly Indian or Chinese, but that's about it.

Sorry if someone has asked this before, but there are over 100 pages on this thread and I can't look through them all.....

You already know I'm in Newcastle. *Star*Lass* is too. And although she rarely posts here, my (veggie) girlfriend is registered as Fona.

I'll discuss it with you at a later date via PM (I'm busy with exams and stuff right now) but maybe at some point in the future we could think about having a VB meetup?

I mean, it depends how both of you feel about meeting strangers from the internet. I definitely understand that type of concerns.

I would normally have concerns about meeting strangers from forums but this board seems different... I would really like to meet other like-minded people and veg*nism is something really important to me, I find I have more in common with people that respect animals in this way, they are more likely to look at the world differently if you know what I mean! :)

Of course I would consider a meet-up at some point - hey maybe I'll see you in Out of this World if I tell you what I look like or vice-versa...

Oh and to Spidergrrl, I haven't been to Seven Stories yet but it sounds really good, I know where it is, just haven't gone in! I think I'll go sometime with my mum and have a bit of a reminisce about my childhood reading...the café sounds good too, themed to the books but I'm not sure about the veg*n options!

Newcastle is a really nice city, it has rough parts obviously, but there is a lot of culture e.g. art galleries (not just the Baltic) and a newly opened little independent cinema/bar in a converted warehouse which is just so different from anywhere else I've been (it's called the Star and Shadow).

If you visit there is a nice wholefood shop in the city centre with a little café (quite pricey for eat-in but reasonable for take-out!) called Almonds and Raisins - I havem't been in there for ages actually but it's a good place...and the place I work, Out of This World in Gosforth is an ethical supermarket, sells meat too unfortunately but good for veg*ns too... :pibo:
