I was interested to see the different sides of arguments presented by the animal activist and the researcher.

Anyone live in Liverpoool?
I recieved an offer from University of Liverpool today, just wondering what it's like as a city. Or as a Uni, if anyone goes there.
(I really don't mean to turn this into 'Kate's University Offers thread'. I just figured this would be the best place to post to find out about these places. Stop me if I get too irritating.)

I worked in Liverpool for a year awhile back so know the town a bit but nothing about the Uni. It's a pretty good town for vegetarians. Every restaurant / kebab shop has veggie options but my fav is the Egg Cafe http://www.cocoon.u-net.com/ which has great food for cheap and is an excellent place to hang out for hours. I found the people in Liverpool to be very friendly and welcoming in general and the night life in town is really great. I knew college age folks who would go out on a friday night with £10 and party for hours grabbing a bite to eat along the way and come home with change.

Anybody know of any vegan brands of Turkish Delight?
If you're feeling rich, Hotel Chocolat's turkish delight is vegan. And it's amazing.

I'm having a gap year, yes. I'm hoping to be doing a year in a related job and I'm trying to get my placement sorted out now. I'm going to be studying computer science :)
I'm not sure where Fi will be. She has applied to Universities all over the country. I think right now that's a talk we're avoiding having. :sealed:

Mmm, Hotel Chocolat...I had a splurge in there last week, I justified it by keeping most of it for Christmas :elf:
This is the brand they have at the HFS, I think http://www.goodnessdirect.co.uk/cgi-local/frameset/detail/208112.html

I have to wait for another four replies - you can apply to up to 6 Unis. Then my decision of a 'firm' and 'insurance' choice will be made in the Spring. I wont know for sure where I'll be until August, because that's when exam results come out. :|

I just wanted to say that my entire school of 6-11 year olds (all 290 of us!) went to Milton Keynes by coach to see the panto of Cinderella today. Whew! The panto itself is not the best I've seen but it was great to go with kids. And little Mo from Eastenders was the good fairy (and Bradley Walsh was Buttons--but I don't know him) I had the interesting task of taking 2 Muslim kids out at the interval to pray as we would be home after sunset. We were helped by a nice program/ice cream seller who found us a conference room and helped us locate the southeast as Zainab accidently left the compass on the coach.
I really love a panto. I had never seen one until we moved to Britain. I hope (if you like them) everyone gets to see one this season!

that's really great. I haven't been to the panto the past couple of years since my sister outgrew them (she's 13) which is a shame, I really enjoy them :)
If you left with 290 kiddos and came back with the same number, then it's a good trip. :D

I heard on the radio last night (during a discussion about cookery programmes) that Janet Street Porter was a big fan of cooking/eating veal. Apparently its not cruel because she knows this farmer that really looks after his calfs. Well that settles it then, silly me for being so sensitive! Who the hell does she think she is anyway? Can't stand the woman and her attitude long before I heard this (just my opinion of course). I bet the farmer takes care of his calfs-he don't have to bother for long though does he. Even when I did eat meat the thought of veal discusted me. I hate these so called celebs that push some bull s++t story, and are so far up their own backsides they can't see sence anymore. Bet she's never witnessed a calf seperated from its mother then killed in a abatoir. Just a guess. I think that's enough of a rant. But if I was ever extreemly unfortunate enough to meet the woman, I'd have to....:gun: :moonpie: :junk:
JSP cracks me up. A few weeks ago, at the onset of the whole Madonna/Malawi brouhaha, she put on this rather lengthy piece talking about how it was so great that Madonna was helping children in Malawi, not like that stupid Angelina Jolie or Meg Ryan, who took children from other countries as fashion accessories. It was all quite mean and bitchy. Of course, like 5 days later, M announced her intended adoption of son David. Was there any comment from Janet? Heh, nope.

I had a strong dislike for JSP to begin with, but since I'm a Jolie fan that's annoyed me even more
She was on Gordon Ramsey's show with her veal crusade. She went to an organic veal farm and kept repeating that Bristish veal was killed a few months later than other veal...I really couldn't see how this made it any more humane. I felt a bit sick in the end because she set up a stall with samples and got passerby's to say they'd start buying veal...

Are you just getting in everywhere? :) Eds is beautiful, great city, great museums etc, good party atmosphere. I know little about the university itself, but the place is pretty cool. And yes, it is worth paying the entrance fee for the castle.
