And would it be wiser for the AR movement at this stage to focus more on factory farming than animal experiments?
I think that this is an interesting question. Whilst the need for animal testing is questionable, the need for factory farming isn't: it's only for financial gain and meat products which are ultimately unnecessary.
It is possible to campaign on more than one front, and just becase one campaign would have greater end results it doesn't mean that 'less important ' causes should be forgotten. For me, factory farming is a more important issue than animal testing.

Regarding campaigns against animal farming there are lots of campaign groups out there who do target factory farming. VIVA, Compassion Against World Farming (CAWF) PETA.
Also such charities as Hillside animal sanctuary in norfolk which do wonderful work, under cover and film the cruelty that goes on behind closed doors. They have achieved wonderful results such as recently filming sickos kicking turkeys around, those two twats have been sacked by our DEAR!!! Bernard Matthews, and heavily fined.

I watched it.
I found it rather interesting.

I beleive that this is the kind of program that people should watch. Yes, we should be aware that any position - and I mean ANY position - is inherantly biased. Nonetheless, that does not mean that we cannot gain valuable insights from it. I found it interesting to watch other points of view than my own (it helps me argue with them if I come across them in reality!).
And I found this on the BBC today

That's an interesting article, pm. I'm curious to see how active they become.
I must admit though, that this part made me giggle
The air was thick with the heavy scent of such dishes as marinated Tempe in curry sauce
Tempe = a city in Arizona, United States. Perhaps they meant tempeh? Heh.

It concerns me, a little, one theme parties - while I feel that it is good to have focused groups around certain issues (animal/human rights, climate etc), I'm never sure if this makes for good politics. That situation is, I feel, more complex than that.
What do you all think?

This reporting at the fair by this journalist was, to my mind, taking the piss!. Anyone else feel the same?.

I have bought silken tofu at both Waitrose and Sainsbury. I found them on the world foods aisle near ther asian food section. Waitrose had Blue Dragon brand and sainsbury had Mori-nu with calcium.
As for engevita (nutritional yeast) I found when I asked for it by the name "engevita--made by the company Marigold" I had better luck getting my HFS to get it because they already stocked other Marigold products.
Good luck.

Anybody know of any vegan brands of Turkish Delight?

I found a recipe--I guess you could use unbleached sugar in it.

unbleached sugar has to be brown really don't it ? and even then you should make sure you see on the packet unrefined, if thats the same as unbleached that is which I think so!
PM..they sell a vegan brand at our HFS. I can check when I'm in there next. I'd bet you could just Google it as well. :)

I got my first University offer! Glasgow, deferred entry 2008. Anybody go to the Uni or live in the city? I've only been once, for a gig, so I haven't seen much of it. Hopefully I'll get a visit in before I have to make any choices, but what do people think about it? From what I can tell it's a great place with tons of music, and it seems immensely veg*n friendly :)

Wow, good for you isowish! My ex-flatmate lives in Glasgow! I've only been there briefly, and seen the ringroad and the Kelvin Hall gymnasium, but it seems ok!
