OK all you UK folk. I'm quite seriously planning coming to London for UK Vegan Week (26.10. - 2.11) or sometime around that time anyway. I've been to London many times before but I never had time to explore all the wonderful vegan options. So if anyone has any good pointers, please let me know! Restaurants, shops, anything! Thanks! :D

hey pyrsk!

i don't live in london but i have been there twice.
last year, i wrote a little report about my experiences there, for my website.... here is an excerpt

before heading to the national vegan festival, we had three days to check out as many of london's finest veg*n restaurants as we could. we knew this was where we would find the ultimate vegan food and we did!

our first stop was the very well recommended, "tai" restaurant in soho, an all you can eat chinese/japanese VEGAN buffet. everything in this place is vegan and it is so nice to sit back and enjoy the endless array of vegan dishes and eat til your heart (or stomach!) is content!

we also found "planet organic", an organic health food/natural food supermarket, one street away from our hostel which was full of delicious vegan surprises and they have such a wide variety of yummy foods. i had trouble deciding what to buy cause there were so many choices (they have a lot of products from all over the world including australia)! we had an awesome vanilla soyaccino there too and they have a fresh wheatjuice bar (plus other juices and beverages)!

we went down to find neals yard and made our way to "food for thought" and had a great salad there with a yummy vinegarette but i must admit i had the best apple crumble to date- mmmmmm.

we hurried to get to piccadilly circus after getting lost in what we thought was hyde park but was really kensington gardens, only to find that "countrylife" was closed! we made our way to soho again and had a delicious lunch at "beatroot" (which kinda reminded me of "veg out" in brisbane) and they have the bestest chocolate cake with vanilla soya dessert ever and soy mango smoothies mmmm!

i have to say that we did go to "mildreds" (near piccadilly circus) but it seemed a bit too posh and the prices a bit too high. they seem to be taking advantage of that area cause i did hear that the old location used to be really great! we decided it was more fun to buy bread rolls, vegan cheese, a tomato and seitan slices and eat them on the footpath at leicester square, haha!

we also found our way to the info shop, 56A, at elephant & castle, housman's in kings cross and also found our way once again to two branches of "fresh and wild" - so many great shops to visit!!! VEGANIC HEAVEN !!!!

i went to brighton, veggitash .... are you much further south?

oh the hunts sabs amaze me. they are so brave!

some people are coming from germany for the demo on the 11th oct at cambridge. i wanna come too !!!!!
i am trying to get a spot in their car but at the moment it's full *but* two people aren't 100% sure they will go so i am crossing my fingers!!

Wow!! Brighton is about 1 hour away from me. I'm going there in a few weeks, actually! I wanna find the vegetarian shoe shop ;)

I spoke to a hunt saboteur a few days ago, he was running an anti-hunt stall. He told me about how the farmers wouldn't pause to run you down with their tractors if you were in their way  and he said everything without a hint of fear... I was amazed! They really are brave.. much braver than me!

Oooh you MUST get a spot in that car! I am definitely going to the 11th October march. I'm getting the coach, so as long as SPEAC ensure the coach still goes, I can make it :vebo: :bobo: :vebo: :bobo:
I made my banner weeks ago, and now I'm thinking about making a second one.. also I've been draining my bank account so I have a nice fat wallet when I get there!

waaah! this thread makes me homesick!

i live in Sweden at the moment, but home is in Wigan. i also spend as much time as is humanly possible in the Lakes.

Syntax - i did my degree and a bit of other stuff in St. Andrews (left in 95), but not been back for years...how is the place?

visited Brighton recently and was just amazed. you could literally eat every meal at a different veggie cafe, restaurant or pub for about a week.

hmmmmm... is anyone here from Kingston University, just out of interest? I ask only because veggieboards was stored in the history thing on this computer... and I've never ever used this computer before.

oh, my bad. each user has a history thing that's stored, no matter which computer one uses.

So you're in Kingston, Gazumper? I guess you've been to the Riverside Vegetaria then... I love that place. Even my boyfriend's family like it there - and they're strictly ommivorous!

I wondered, is anyone planning on going to the Bristol vegan fayre on Saturday 1st November?

One of my co-workers has moved to bristol. He's omni though, so I doubt he'd be going. Looks good anyway, but a little too far for my liking. I'd def. go to a veg-fest if they had one somewhere closer, like manchester.

Pretty much - I'm always looking to see if anyone replies to anything though. So we better think of a way to make it more interesting, err.......any ideas?

Stuff did happen at the beginning of this month for World Vegan Day or whatever it was. I got free food in London - that was good. We should have a veggieboards meet or something, they always seem to be having them everywhere else.

Their 'free from' range is nice and it marks vegan friendly. Their tomato pasta suace is quite vinegarry but Tescos 'free from' is nicer. But darn expensive

I watched it. And not only was it amazing, I did a deal with the Powers-That-Be that if England won the match my 12 year old car would pass it's MOT, as it was in the garage at the same time as the match.
When it went into extra time I nearly chewed my fingers off. But the MOT result came back 'failed - but take it in again monday and they'll pass it for £50's worth of work' Which must be about 20 minutes...
I even watched a repeat of the game today.
