We went into London last night to see Top Girls at the Royal Court Theatre and ate at 222 VeggieVegan. I had the stroganoff with seitan, mushroom, caramalized onion, red peppers in a cashew cream sauce over steamed brown basamati rice that was heavenly. I had the 222Pancake for pudding as well---a wholemeal crepe with vanilla ice cream inside with chocolate and vanila sauce poured over the top. It was decadent.

I love going there. The chef and owner is so nice. Everything vegan. Wow. You can't beat that.

Yesterday Jen and I went to London, and we visited 222 Veggie Vegan too :) Unfortunately, it was too late to order anything from the menu, except for desserts. The buffet was still open, and that was really good, though. I nibbled some pieces from Jen's vegan pancake with vanilla ice cream inside and chokolate and vanilla cream on top. Top class!

It was very delicious! "nibbled some pieces"

About the shampoo thing, SL: I was using their conditioner. I think I'm actually going to try Lush next, as they have a store right in Oxford. I've had good results with the soaps, etc. that I've gotten from them before. Also, I like the idea of a shampoo bar because there's no container to waste/recycle.

Also...if any of you have a car and are in the Midlands or Southeast, we may have a proposition for you. ;)

Woohoo! 222Veggievegan rocks! The lunch buffet is extremely affordable but the dinner menu is heavenly. I love their desserts.

I Am Jen: I really like the idea of a shampoo bar as well---no bottle waste and no paraben preservatives. I tried LUSH shampoo bars and didn't have much success---the round ones were so harsh that just holding it in my hand made my hands dry and crackly and i had to use gobs of conditioner on my hair after each wash. I have not tried the ones that were cut like wedges of cake but friends say they are milder. I also didn't like the way the clearly artificial colour rubbed off all over my hands and tub. And I adore most other LUSH products. I did have more success making my own shampoo bar from "melt and pour" glycerine soap with a bit of cocoa butter added to make it less harsh. It worked for a while but ultimately my hair got dull and I had to switch over.

I love LUSH's Les Cacas henna hair colour however--but it has been too hot lately to put hot henna under plastic wrap on my head for 3 hours. sigh...I am due for a touch up.

I've got the round one, sort of a pink/redish colour? I found it quite drying too, although it was ok when my hair was it's natural colour. I use lots of conditioner afterwards anyways. Now that it's highlighted i won't use it cos i need to use really moisturising stuff. I haven't tried their vegan liquid shampoo or conditioner. I love their showergels.

*SL* --- Yeah--I had the red cinnamon one and a purple one. The purple was the worst. I wish they didn't use parabens as their preservatives in their liquid products otherwise I would buy the lot! I have to say I am guilty of studying their products and then going home to make my own! I am learning to make fizzy bath bombs. I can't get enough of those.

When I bought my 2 shampoo bars I got a free little tin for carrying them. I melt 1 TB each oil, cocoa butter and wax and add some lavender essential oil and pour it in the tin and it makes an awesome rich hand cream. The tin is perfect as it seals but lid removes easily and the "lotion" doesn't melt! Perfect for my handbag.

Spidergrrl..that's an interesting idea about making your own. I've done all sorts of bath stuff and lotions before as Christmas gifts, etc. Maybe I'll do some Googling for shampoo recipes :D

I'm glad to hear you like the henna. I talked with one of the salesladies about it for awhile. I've only used the kind that comes in a powder and then you have to whip it into a paste. I'm thinking about cutting my hair soon, and I may try the henna as well.

Finally I have found UK people. The Americans have salami by Yves. Is there anywhere in the UK I can get hold of a similar (or the same) product?
After 12 years of veginess its the only thing I still crave and despite constant harassing of the quorn customer service department they still dont believe that I alone constitute a sufficient market for it.

I've seen veggie salami in my HFS - never bought it, however. It's made by Redwood, I think.

I don't know if they have veggie salami, but Holland and Barrett in our neck of the woods has a pretty extensive fake-meat selection. If they don't have it in stock, they may be able to order some for you.

That looks good...problem is, I don't have any vegan friends (who could get there as easily as me). Would their diet get checked at the door?

And thanks for posting about that debate, I'll try and catch it.

Did anyone here watch Gordon Ramseys F word last night? I never liked him because he's plain rude about veg*ns, but last night he was shown a video about factory farming, and was really shocked, then went outside to cuddle his pigs, saying "That's enough to make anyone vegetarian", then that he understands why we do it now. *Phew*, that show was about to make me snap, he's incredibly annoying.

Yeh i saw it. I'm glad he said though, cos usually he always manages to have a dig at us.

Last nights was enough to make me shed a few tears i have to admit. Those poor eels

The View from River Cottage, with Hugh Fearnley, made me sick last week. He castrated a calf, then fried up and ate it's bits....... unfortunately i was eating at the time. Also, it showed him and this guy making black pudding..... omg.... it was like a horror film! I actually quite like this guys attitude to eating meat though. He doesn't hide from what meat actually is, and is always concerned about the welfare of the animals. It's on at 8pm on channel 4 tonight btw.

No I probably won't go the Vegan festival. Me and Spiderman (my husband) went to Viva's Veggie Roadshow http://www.viva.org.uk/roadshows06/ last year. It was informative and I got loads of books, literature, Plamil chocolate, tasted tons of samples of food etc but it was WALL TO WALL people. Spiderman is really skittish in crowds and even I felt ill from the heat of so many bodies. And the queues were enormous...waiting 45 minutes to eat some redwoods cheezly and tofu on a toothpick. It would be good if you didn't know about veg*nism--but we found it was too crowded and much of it beginner level (as in how to become veg*n stuff) maybe vegan festival would be different. Spidey says he can't face the crowds again so we won't be going as I completely understand.

Hello from the States!

I am planning a trip to England and would love to get tips on great places to eat in London. Also, planning on heading up to Bath for a few days.

I'm incredibly excited and have been virtually obsessed with going to Britain for some time now. :D
