Succcess!
I received so may compliments at yesterday's Liverpool Vegan Food Fair about my chocolate cake and chocolate truffles and people were so impressed by the Organica milky chocolate that I am beginning to think that the carrot to dangle in front of non vegns is not a carrot after all but is in fact...chocolate,lol!
Success!

Who lives in London or Edinburgh?
It's still a while before I'm applying to Uni, but I'm looking at both of these places as places I might be living (Edinburgh uni or Imperial College). How do they go as far as being veggie friendly or generally good places to live?
Even better, has anyone been to either of these unis? What were they like?
Ooops! I meant to ask who lives in London or Edinburgh. I live in Newcastle now. Edited to avoid confusion.
I was going to PM you to say thanks for the info, VA~Goth, but your inbox is full :(

Can't tell you about Newcastle, but I live in Fife, and Edinburgh isn't too bad. I don't know about the Uni itself as far as catering is concerned, but there are definately places to eat out.

Check this out, perhaps it will help.
They also have a One World Shop there, which is cool, and there are plenty of charity shops if you're into that sort of thing. One of my friends, who has the funkiest clothes in the world, buys a lot of her stuff from there. Plus, the city is beautiful, and I'm quite happy to wonder round it on my own, something I wouldn't do in other places.
Good luck applying - what are you wanting to study?
Thanks forthe info  I like charity shopping sometimes, but the shops round here are a bit of a dissappointment, so that would be cool. And accommodation wise, I'll probably go self-catering anyway.
I've been to the city once but didn't get much of a chance to look around (it was years ago with Guides and they shepherded us everywhere ).
I want to study Computer Science :)

It is just this shop (there is also one in Glasgow), and it stocks the kind of thing that you might find on Traidcraft or something. Lots of fairly traded niceness - gifts and food, music etc.
You should be well set up for veggie stuff in London I would imagine - it is just the costs that are a problem, though your loan will be higher if you go there. It balances out though, in the end.
Computer science is impressive to me. Stuck in the Middle Ages, me. :)

I've given squares of Plamil chocolate to omnis and they've gobbled it up, then I say "hey you've eaten Vegan food now!!" People are always surprised that it's so nice
Brilliant!

I thought it was really good! I didn't realise Heather was behind J.Crew stopping the use of fur. It showed some good footage that hopefully shocked people, some of it i've never seen before. They repeatedly showed footage of an alsation being skinned alive. Good way to get the publics attention, since we're supposedly a nation of dog lovers. There was also a lot about cat fur, and some really cute seals who were due to be killed in the next Canadian seal cull. So overall, some well needed, shocking images.
I hope some of you got to see it.

I was out :(
don't think I could have handled anything that graphic anyway, but it sounds interesting.

I never saw much of anything graphic, apart from a meet they organized with projector film which was shown to the public(?) I think showing the skinned alive thing/alsation?.... China dogs, apparently, but I came too late to watch or else they really only showed a fraction of stuff anyway did they?.... Other than that, I saw very little, sooo mistakenly, I only saw towards the end. Paul McCartney got emotional as did his woman(?) thats about all I caught wind of... [STS]
Does anyone know of any decent vegan cheeses in the uk?

From Yaoh.
The 4th annual Bristol Vegan Fayre is on Sat June 10th this year – 7 weeks today.
The Fayre is shaping up nicely and is on course to be once again the World’s biggest vegan event.
With about 125 stallholders, and 50 speakers and entertainers, and an expected 10,000 + crowd (if the weather’s good), it really is getting massive.
Over 100 stalls are sold now but there’s still some available, if you or any of your colleagues know of anyone who would like a stall, please do send them our way. Likewise there are still a few gaps to be filled in the talks and demos schedules. We are particularly interested to hear from anyone who works with animals and would like to do a talk/presentation. Entertainers too are welcome to get in touch.
As always, we rely mainly on word of mouth to promote the event as we don’t have a huge advertising/marketing budget. Everyone is welcome, and admission is free, so please do tell all your friends and family about the Fayre, even if you can’t make it yourselves.
For more information about the Fayre, click here http://www.yaoh.co.uk/fayre2006.htm
The 4th edition of A Vegan Guide To Bristol is now available – you can download the pdf here http://www.yaoh.co.uk/veganguide.htm
Or send a large SAE (49p) to Yaoh PO Box 333 Bristol BS99 1NF for your free copy. Over 235 vegan businesses, organisations, people and products are listed.
We are having a little launch party for the guide with a free buffet at Plantation Restaurant in Bristol on Monday May 1st between 6pm and 8pm, to which you are all welcome. Afterwards we are having dinner from 8pm – 11pm, but this must be booked in advance (and paid for!). This is also the second meeting of the new Bristol vegan social group – click here for further details http://www.veganbristol.makessense.co.uk/events/181.html
Many thanks for your support

Does anyone know of any decent vegan cheeses in the uk?
I haven't liked any of the ones i've tried, but i am going to buy one of Cheezly's soon and try that:

They've got these new melting ones, and different flavours, like garlic and bacon. I hope they taste good! Someone once told me that rice cheese is nice.

Hello, anyone from kent? I am from Dartford. Lovely.
Where do you get them from?
I've tried redwoods cheezly before and never really liked it. It doesnt taste like cheese at all. I dont think you'll ever get a completly cheese tasting vegan cheese. The closest thing i'll eat to cheese is tofutti cream cheese which is pretty good. However if you want to try cheezly most holland and barrat stores stock it as to a large number of inderpendant wholefoods shops. And be VERY wary or rice cheeses as i've personally never seen one thats vegan.
I want something that will go on pizza. I didn't know you could get Tofutti over here

If you want something to go on pizza melting cheezly is worth a try but it really doesnt taste like cheese imo. Never tried it on pizza, i usually go for cheeseless pizza and top it with a load of yummy veggies, tastes nicer. And yes tofutti cream cheese is pretty widely avalible over here as are a few other tofutti products, such as their cheese slices and some of their frozen products. It really is worth having a good browse in the refrigerated/frozen section of your local holland and barrat or health food store.
Oh and for anyone thats interested sainsburys have finally made their vegetable samosas vegan again!

Oooo... did anyone see Jonathan Ross the other night?? He was making fun of us!! He was reading a veggie magazine (which he said he'd been reading that morning with his bacon sandwich ) and came across an ad for Scheese, so he bought some and had it there in the studio. He then tried it and spat it out. Just generally taking the pi**.

Heehee, no I didn't see that! But Jonathan does take the mick out of himself too and those around him, so I wouldn't have been bothered by him laughing at vegan cheese. I doubt there was any malice in it. In fact, a lot of his guests come on and joke about his hairstyles or snazzy dress sense.
Did you see the one where he took the piss out of Radiohead and told them to do the Eurovision song contest.
