Are the sandwiches made by Boots or another company? I know they were selling Fresh! sarnies (in only some branches) a while back but I have't seen them for ages.

Oh hi!
I have been busy at Uni so I got kind of distracted but I'm having a good time and all so I have been neglecting VB.
:dizzy:
I'll be back soon- oh by the way how is everyone else doing at uni etc.?

hehe, one of my minor departments is having "reading week" I'm using it for the internet! I should actually be reading, since there's some stuff I need to get through my head. It is a wee bit annoying how you have to take two minor subjects at my uni.

One of my departments cancelled reading week, we were supposed to spend it working on a presentation, we didn't, so just blagged it, it went ok, we blamed what went wrong on the members that didn't turn up.
I'm liking uni so far though.

Boots DONT make thier own sandwiches....plus, they dont {as far as i kno} have ANY true *~VEGAN~* sandwiches, the bread they use is not vegan.

This applys to nearly ALL the supermarkets......no sandwiches are made on site, so to speak. They are either delivered that aday, or they keep them, friged and keep trawling them out till..near the B.B.E date.

so... "the happy hippo" ... what was it?

I ask because there was once, circa 1988, an ordinary everyday cafe in Ramsgate called the happy hippo that also sold vegan stuff, burgers etc and it was blissful but vanished and it'd be good if the woman that ran it had relocated. :)

I think it's been said on here before but as we are talking sandwiches Starbucks do a vegan falafel wrap and Pret do a vegan houmous and roasted vegetable sandwich.
Although they are not always in stock - I starved the other day as I couldn't get anything vegan in 2 Starbucks branches and 1 Pret.

are shops really allowed to state in writing on the box that somethin' is vegan when its not. (surely they could get sued by people with allergies)

I think the problem is what their definition of vegan is, or how clearly they understand what contains animal products (like e-numbers etc). I think it is the same problem with things marked vegetarian - you rely on their knowledge and interpretation of what that means.

This is why the Vegan Society sunflower mark is such a good idea, leaving no doubt. If you have a favourite vegan product why not write asking them to adopt the sunflower mark? That way it is clear to everyone and the vegan society spread the word and get valuable funds in.

I have recently challenged a deli selling 'vegan' slices - I was just about to buy one but because I had been asking about the ingredients of the bread and other items he rattled through the ingredients list for the slice, and I was shocked to hear honey on the list! I told him this was not vegan and he said he knew lots of vegans who ate honey. He did change the label but this is a common problem in restaurants and small shops. In one place I go to it marks foods "vegan but contains honey" so at least we can decide for ourselves.

Doh, missed it. Must log in more often. Was pretty tied up today, but it doesnt seem to mention a time. I was in Russel square, so would have come, had I known.

I didn't go in the end either, I got up too late due to going out the night before. Nevermind! How are you doing? You survived Ghana alright then?

kat

Hey, yeah Ghana was great. The work was slow and frustrating, but just being out there was great. Made some great friends too. There was plenty of beans, avocados and nuts so eating was fairly easy. Soy milk was even begining to catch on, though it did contain powdered cow milk.

How have you been?

Thanks for your time.

They're all legal people, I think they all do similar jobs but in different courts and at different levels.

With out reading it and going that you don't seem to have contacted the firm, I'd guess it was a 419.

Ethel

A Lawyer is the same as a Solicitor but a Barrister only does court work. Solicitors employ Barristers when they have to present stuff in court (though some Solicitors are now allowed to do court work).
Hope that helps. What was the "too good to be true" email about - I'm curious, have you inherited some money from a distant relative or something?!

And what is a 419?

Loki

I haven't read the thread, but I know what a 419 is. It's a nigerian email scam.
