I saw that programme, dairy farmers are treated pretty badly too. They only get about 5p for every pint of milk the cows produce. I don't feel that sorry for them though, the way some of them treat their cows.
I've got to read that book- Shopped but I think it'll just make me more paranoid about the unfair world we live in. I believe in supporting small businesses rather than large ones like Tesco or Walmart (*shudder* they're taking over the world).

 it's a stressful time, but be happy it's all over! I still have some in a few weeks time :(
Hope u had fun in Canada! What made u go there?
I heard there was some great scenery and wildlife. I also wanted to be away from home because I am really fed up with my parents divorce coming up and I needed a break after my exams.
Okay- so that was way too much information.
But anyway :guitar:

I missed that supermarket thing tonight! I really wanted to see it. Briefly, what did it say about dairy cows and ducks? Does anyone know if it's repeated?

Some supermarkets are saying that Duck is a very healthy meat and are starting to factory farm ducks and not give them water to swim in so they can't behave naturally.
Dairy cows get this condition where they get swollen painful udders because they are milked too much and have to stand on concrete floors in thier own **** which damages their feet and makes them half lame.
Not good stuff.
Thursday at 9pm is when the episode on ducks and dairy cows will be. I'll have to see if that one is repeated, since I'll be out of the house at that time.
Well, I'm from Blackpool. Yup - That tacky tourist town!!! With the tower!!!
I've just got back from there! I was there this weekend, it is ace. It is the tackiest place I've ever been, but I love how it can take the piss out of itself. I did see a rat though. And lose half my wages gambling. I say gambling, it was trying to get teddies out of those 'grabber' machines.
I watched the supermarket programme last night too. Can't say it really surprised me but it was kind of shocking too.
It was horrible, especially this bit where they rolled baby chicks off a conveyor belt, to put them in a massive warehouse where they got fattened up (in 42 days they are full size compared to 6 months, if they were feeding naturally) they and one of the chicks had got its leg stuck in the roller, it was awful.

Is this the program where chickens are shown (surprise*) to be full of fat and lacking in protein which if reared properly (as stats show in bygone days) the nutrition callibration in them would be verse vice.
And also in the program, (same time as bad lads army on ITV :p) I saw the limp/sprung legs of the chickens due to overgrown chick body weight making them sickeningly top heavy and unable to stand on their feet. :(

infuriating they are and obviously comtemptuous, designed to fail/ rigged machines, and NOT designed to pick up a damn thing. The grab is soooooooooo verrrrrrrry lame, its lamer than a duck!!!!!! :furious:

Just thought I'd say hi to all you UK vegetarians. Just started using veggieboards yeterday and it seems really cool so far. And can I say what a GREAT country ours is for Veggieness. I've just been to Hong Kong to stay with a friend and despite all the buddhists over there, vegetarianism is looked at as some weird cult. Anyway look forward to meeting VB people, especially londoners (us lot hav to stick together at the moment).

Hi Bobmarley! Yep, I take it forgranted how relatively easy it is to eat veggie in the UK until I go elsewhere!
I live in Hampshire but I work in London.
Brilliant!

Bristol Vegan Fayre is on the lookout for a band, a kids entertainment team, and another 1/2 hour 'show' of some sort to do on the day.
Do you know anyone who fits the bill, helping to make the fayre even better than its already going to be, whilst making themselves known to a whole new audience ??
Any ideas very welcome, post em here or contact Yaoh or Vegan Bristol. ;)

Has anyone tried the vegetarian black pudding yet? When I first heard about it I thought it was a wind-up but it's not! Vegetarian Society approved veggie black pudding: who would have imagined that?

Does anyone know if it's vegan or not?

Can't imagine me trying veggie haggis or black pudding. Sounds horrid! I have seen the haggis before, but not the black pudding.

I never wanted to try real black pudding or haggis when I was an omni...I think I would try Veggie black pudding though, maybe. Especially if it is vegan. Sounds funny.
vegetarian black pudding sounds good. There's a link on that page, and it directs to the supplier. Maybe you could email them and see if it is vegan.

I sent an email to them asking whether it was vegan. I'll let you all know how they answer.

I'm guessing they'll answer like thus
"Dear VB, thanku for your inane and indecent request :D its all in the perception, if a black pudding of ours looks like a black mans todger, it could be construed quite fairly unpalatably meaty, but so very wrongfully would that be my friend, for it is not meat, but a mixture or smut buttered texturized junk with lack lustre spice.....but we would like to reassure vegans that whilst it has that appearance, to project such a dark shadow on food as fine as ours is asking for two in your gob at the same time. and yes it is vegan, at least thats what our tasteless lipsmacking taste testers tell us and we should know, coz we have no scruples" lol
:o Oh I do apologize, that was our description dissemination for wonka liquorice. :p
Disclaimer: Joke. :p
Thanks isowish.... looking forward to the response

BIGGUP ESSEX COUNTY CREW!!!
Alright! Actuaaaaly I'm from the ' Hampstead of Essex' - Wivenhoe, which is quite decadent and mainly devoted to drink, art, drink, poetry and vegetarianism in that order. It's got a great veggie orientated deli as well.
I'm also new here and haven't even got an avatar yet.
