LOKI !!!!!
is that u? from the peta boards?

I'm on many boards, but you may recognise me from PETA2. I post there from time to time. I'm not a big fan of the PETA2 boards, as many of the users there are fixed on certain ideologies which aren't that reasonable, and it's plagued by trolls. However, the lack of a swear filter allows me to use words you won't even hear on channel four extensively.

But I post there, and I like it because I get to use my sense of humour extensively and also try to reach the middle ground. The international board on PETA2 appears to be more intelligent than the other boards.

Hi guys! I’ve been sent this e-mail by PeTA about a demo in Birmingham against KFC. This may or may not be your thing but please pass it on to anyone you think that might be interested! I in fact have never done anything like this before but I think that I will give it a go! If you live in Birmingham please let me know if you are interested and we could meet up just before it Kicks off.

Dear fellow activist,

Please join us for a demonstration against KFC in Birmingham on Friday 4 February!

As I am sure you are aware, PETA is asking KFC to eliminate the worst abuses that chickens suffer on the factory farms and in the slaughterhouses of its suppliers, including live scalding, life-long crippling and painful debeaking. The more than 750 million chickens killed each year for KFC are tortured in ways that would result in felony cruelty-to-animals charges if cats or dogs were the victims, but KFC still refuses to make changes. As the leader in the chicken industry, KFC has a responsibility to ensure that the chickens raised for its buckets are protected from the worst cruelties.

KFC demonstrations are continuing around the world; from Sydney to New York to Paris, and more excitingly, we are now coming to KFC Birmingham!

Where: KFC Bull St (Off Corporation St)
When: Friday 4 February 2005
Time: 11:30am-1pm

Theme: Giant ‘chicken’ being chased and slaughtered by a ‘butcher’
We urgently need activist’s to help hand out leaflets, hold posters and three special people to dress up as the butcher, chicken and to wear a body screen TV so we can educate the public about these atrocious cruelties. If you are willing to dress up for us, please let me know asap! We’ll have all the posters, leaflets, and costumes so all you need to bring is yourself!

We have an exciting day planned in Birmingham, after the demonstration we will be heading into the city centre where PETA’s Sean Gifford will be debating the local butcher on BBC radio. Afterwards we will hand out free vegan food samples to show how tasty a cruelty free diet can be. If you offer any assistance in food preparation, keeping food hot/cold etc please let me know.

Please contact me on 020 7357 9229 ext. 234 or reply to this email. For more info on the campaign, please visit www.kfccruelty.co.uk
Hope to see you there and looking forward to meeting you all!

Hello everyone, I am taking a little trip over there the begining of April, I am just curious, I have heard lots of people telling me to not say I am from America and what not because of hostility towards us, well how much of this is over-exaggerated? I am a rather passive person but people are making it sound like I am going to have to watch myself a lot, I find this hard to believe but I would like a little reassurance... Thanks

I think it depends which part of the U.K you visit. I've never really noticed any major hostility here. But then again I live in an area with a huge U.S base so there's a lot of Americans around.

I think that the hostility you've been warned about is a little over exaggerated. As long as you don't go around the streets shouting about how great Bush is i doubt you'll get anyone being especially hostile towards you. Of course like any place you visit you always come across some idiot who has to say something.

Oh and to add I don't think denying you're from the U.S would work, most people can tell and american accent a mile away.

Most of it is just political garb. Many Uk people are opposed to politics in the USA, but you need not worry, you'll be greeted well in the UK. After all, it's just a political opposition. Most people in the Uk know that the average american person is a pretty decent person.

Just be open and honest with people that you're american. And enjoy yourself.

Some people might have a negative opinion about the steroetype American tourist being irritating, annoying and loud but it sounds like you aren't that type of person. Most folk will treat you as they find you - if you are pleasant and friendly so will they be.
Any anti-American feeling is more about the country and a feeling that Americans are blindly patriotic. I would say itt's not directed towards individual people so I wouldn't worry at all, esp in London where I am. You may wish to steer clear of any politcal debates if you want a quiet life but then again . . . !
I hope you have fun. If you need advice on where to eat just ask us!

Thanks alot everyone! I am going to see another part of the world and experience new things not to debate so I think I should be fine. From what I have seen on here eating shouldn't be a problem, it looks like anywhere in Europe is more veg friendly than my city. Again, thanks for the replies.

Oh yeah, I am spending some time a day or two in London than flying to Sweden, Scotland and Ireland. Basically a back pack and doing as much as possible in a short period of time.

I've never heard of anyone being anti american people in England. Anti Iraq war yes, but it's not a much talked about thing except in bars with drunks.
Have a lovely holiday. Sweden is the most civilised place on Earth, Ireland rocks and Scotland is beautiful but maybe you won't understand their accent!!

I've heard the odd anti-Bush rant from taxi drivers in the UK but that's about it. If you're pro-Bush, then don't talk about politics but if you're anti Bush join the rant :)

I think the worst thing I've seen was an american tourist in a pub during the last election talking about Bush vs Kerry, stating he was pro-bush because of gun control, abortion etc. He was met with silence and the brits changed the subject. When the american left, the locals in the pub made derogatory comments about his views.

I am far from pro bush so maybe I'll make some friends. It sounds like the people that are telling me this stuff (I live in a extremely red state) are just being judgemental @sses. I assumed that though, I am used to them being nut jobs when somebody doesn't agree with them. From what I hear on here, sounds like a lot of friendly people to make a great experience. I might not want to come back here. :)

I'd wager a lot of those people telling you things about attitudes towards americans in europe can't even find europe on a map.

You'll love it over here.

Ah, London. That's miles away from me. But check out www.happycow.net - There are plenty of veg*n eateries in London, so you'll be pretty sorted.

Now I haven't been to London since I was 8 years old, so I don't know much about it, except it's a funnt place where a pie isn't just a pie, and you don't have it with chips, you have it with mashed potatoes, and gravy and curry sauce in fish & chip shops are as rare as rocking horse sh*t.

I loved it, was busier than I expected. They had long benches and everytime someone wanted to get out everyone had to get up to let them out. As it was so busy, this happened a lot! The food was great, absolutely loved it. They kep changing the dished so we got realy full, but we wanted to try the new stuff. Oh and they had loads of chocolate too! :hungry: There are a couple of the pics in the album now of me and Black Heart. She came along to a party afterwards and it was great fun! Shame you couldn't have made it along too!
