It snowed in Blackpool on xmas day! However, it didn't stick. it stuck in Pilling, (A little village halfway between blackpool & lancaster) where some of my friends live.

Loki, as for your pm back at me, I can't seem to find the 'banned' smiley I had to show you, I can't even remember now where I saw it, unless it was Care2.com, which most likely it was.. Anyway, I will come across it again soon I'm sure. It was used a regular site I visit I'm sure, sooo on I look....
<Loki is not really Banned, its his sense of humour>

So... you're from Newcastle.
I shop in Newcastle occasionally. I like the Forbidden Planet Shop (for the Star Trek stuff) and I also like the Green because it has some realy cool clothes shops (which I am too tight to buy anything from).
:hi: *waves at post above*
:hi:
Yeh i know Forbidden Planet, i used to go in there a lot when i was 15ish, i had a huge crush on David Duchovny (X-Files) and would get my posters there :p Not sure what you mean by the Green, there's the green market, but that's tiny and old-fashioned, think u might mean Eldon Square? I don't think i've ever been to Durham, think i might go shopping there one day though, it seems like a nice place. :)

Mmmm...*thinks* maybe I meant the green market or something.
I would reccomend that you take a tour of the Cathedral and go up to the top of the tallest tower for a really great view (unless you don't like heights).
Durham has all the usual shops but the market is pretty cool.

Hey thanks for the link Michael ;) Nice to meet u ppl. I'm in Newcastle where nothing much vegan happens. I have joined the local Vegan Society group but it's still hard work to do nice Vegan things. Brighton rocks! as does London I hear. Someone to me about the legend of the 'Pogo' cafe. Entirely Vegan I heard - bury me there please :) Nice to see some veggies taking tim to chat. Speak soon.

The 'green' is the hippy green outside of Petsounds and Katmandu, near Grey's monument. Also where u r not allowed to drink beer anymore :( The police finally caught up. Are there lots of veggies in Newcastle?

Oh, hippy square, yeh i know that, i love Kathmandu! Erm... not sure if there's many of us, i know a few.
Has anyone tried Free & Easy Dairy Free Cheese flavour sauce mix?? I just got some today, might try it with pasta sometime, i got it from Morrisons.

I think I got that or something similar from Holland and Barret, it was fairly good, but not the same as the real thing. But I'm not so keen on cheese these days. I still have it, so may give it another go. The second time I made the sauce too thick and it wasn't too great like that,

We have created an exciting internet-based information service for UK vegans and aspiring vegans.
I'm looking for people that may be interested in trying a free trial of the service.
If you're interested or for more info, please send me an email me at [Moderator's note: E-mail address removed.].
Thanks,
James

As I'm not getting many requests through, if anyone wants more info about the service please see [Moderator's note: URL removed.].
The system has been developed by vegans and is run by vegans - and we could really do with some fellow vegans to help test it. All we ask of you is that after one month you let us know what you think of the system. Once it's launched, each trialist will be able to use the service for free for one year.
If anyone has any questions or comments about the service, I'd be really grateful if you could contact me directly (email or PM) rather than posting to the board.
Thanks,
James
My mobile phone calls are 35p a minute payg so I doubt I'd be able to afford the calls.
But I'd be pleased to trial anything that is home computer based. Email me here at VB if you want to.

ah so is this a WAP application?
i really wanted to try it in the first place xD and now a whole year free ;-; ... evilll...xD it's like teesing someone with a lovely tofu cheese cake (insert favourite hardly ever have food item here)
you need a java enabled phone for it (you need to download a small java application onto the phone), too bad i can't just get a black marker pen and write the word java on it for it to work :/
a computer based one would be amazing though, even if it were monthly subscription based it'd be pretty spiffy :)

You know what would be really good, if I could have someone with a good memory to come shopping with me so that I don't forget to buy important things like rice for example :-(

One should never go to the store without a list! A proper list will ensure you buy what you wanted and will help you resist wasting money on 'impulse buys'.
Probably the best advice my grandma gave me back when I was a college student ;)

MrFalafel Ranks vegan-friendliness of UK cities for visitors
I travel all over as part of my job. This entails staying in hotels and eating in restaurants. Here's my findings not in any particular order:
1) London: vegan wonderland
2) Manchester: lots of veggie options but central Manchester veggie restaurants close early! Best place in town is an omni place 'Little Yang Sing' with 60+ vegan menu options
3) Brighton: probably more vegan friendly than London!
4) Liverpool: Not especially vegan friendly but the Egg Cafe makes up for it. Incredibly cheap town to eat out (and drink!) in.
5) Edinburgh: As vegan friendly as London or Brighton and better than Manchester. A bit on the pricey side, though.
6) Newcastle: Not so great for dining but a fun town nonetheless
7) Reading: dissapointing place for being so populated
8) Nottingham: very veggie friendly but the good places all close at night!
9) Glasgow: veggie places are few and far between but when found, they are very good. They fill up most nights so book ahead!
10) Blackpool: probably the least veggie friendly town in the UK :( which is a shame as it's a fun place to visit.

I can agree! Although I can't see where the fun is! It's a sh*thole!
Seems a bit harsh on Blackpool. Hmm I would try and say something good about it. Hmm. I did okay for veggie options when I was there. It had very freaky weather when I was there, clouds rushed in, we could see them moving and we saw the top of Blackpool tower disapearing and a few seconds later we could only see for about 10 meters in front of us. And then after 20 mins it all went.
Oh and friendly seagulls.

You should try the following which are all open at night:
Squeek on Heathcote street in the Lace Market [Fantastic Veggie / vegan restaurant] open until 10ish
Broadway on Broad Street [Omni but always have a good vegan option] open late 10pm+
Alley Cafe up an alley (no really) opposite the central library [veggie / animal friendly cafe and generally cool place to hang out] I wouldn't like to swear what time they close at night but the food is great.

Trust me when I tell you that this doesn't help, I still manage to forget to buy stuff :(
I can't speak too many good words about Blackpool. I've lived there all my life, and i can say that it is completely uncultured, tacky and rubbish.
And the weather has been hilarious lately. You know the weather is good when your brother rushes in, crams you in the back of a peugeot 306, and wavedodge along the seafront (in a car) before the police and coastgaurd can close it off.

I like rollarcoasters so Pleasure Beach is great fun. I can imagine it'd get old after awhile if you lived there.

Went to the Alley Cafe for lunch once but it's closed on Sunday nights (when I was there last).
Didn't know about those other ones. I'll check them out next time I'm there.
