The moblie #'s thing probably is a good idea. Although I don't actually know my own moblie #. If we do exchange them, then it'd be best to do it via PM, since there may be some crazy people reading these boards. So just a word of warning: Don't post any moblie #'s on these boards.

hey
I can meet people at piccadilly station, no problem. Its not thattt huge a place, so we can just pick a shop to hang/meet out the front of, it should be fine.

ive a digital camera and a mobile phone.

Please dont mug me. :-)

The tib street venue honestly isnt far away from the station. Its kinda behind the Market street Debanhams (sp?). Ive walked past it many times and its not in the most glamourous of locations (hmm, are there any in manchester?) but hey.

Well, the festival starts at 10:30am, so we'll need to meet up before that. I'd suggest that we all meet up at the station between 9:30 and 10:00, so we can get there early. (I'll be gutted if we get there late, and we find a falafel stand that's been emptied by everyone else!)

And so far, it's just me & nat. Come on!!! We need more people!!! We must have more UK VBers!!

I'm still going, and I'll meet you guys at Picadilly. I assume Syntax will too since I'm flying down with him! On the other hand, if you do need meeters and greeters for Victoria road we could do that.

OK, so I've managed to find a train ticket at a reasonable price, but it gets in to Manchester Piccadilly at 10.06 - to get in any earlier I'd have to leave home at 6am which isn't going to happen so sorry about that! So if you can manage to wait 10 minutes longer, I'll meet up with you all. So that's Loki, Natalie, Syntax, PurpleGrrl and me - right? so who else is coming? Lollypop? Can someone who knows the station suggest a good place to meet? I've got a mobile too.

"MANCHESTER CENTRAL, coach station, Chorlton Street, Greater Manchester"

is that the right destination ? or should I go for Manchester, airport, the station, greater manchester ?

I think I'd better be in Manchester on friday to make sure that a delay with the bus isn't a problem for me.

Now all I have to hope is that I find a reasonable connection in London.

The coach/bus station is about the same distance from the Tib Street venue as Picaddilly train station (i.e. ten minute walk, if that). So much much better than the airport!
Hope you can come!

I'll try to get there early, so as not to let the side down!!! I've added you all to the list of attendees. I'll have to add a list of people making seperate arrangements for transport (ie 1vegan arriving by coach.)

I haven't booked the hostel or the trip yet, (I'll do that tonight), but the bus leaves on friday 9:45 am and will arrive somewhere in manchester saturday 5:30am....

I think that leaves me time enough to find picadilly station :p

I'll just take a train. I'll get some details about train times closer to the event!

Anyway, so would i be correct when I say that this is what we're doing throughout the day:

Meeting around 10:00 or earlier.
Going to the vegan festival at 10:30ish
Eating at a veg restaurant sometime in the later hours of the day
Firing automatic weapons at passing cars until nightfall
Go home.

w00t!!! I got myself a job. It's a 9-5 affair, monday to friday, so I'll definitely have that saturday free! Just 3 weeks to go!!! I can't wait!

So the bulk of us are meeting at piccadilly station? We just need to make sure we have a meeting place within the station. (I think anywhere but the KFC would be a good meeting place)

natalie

thats great about the job Loki. :-)

One possible meeting point is the area in front of the WH Smiths inside the station - its located just near the front entrance of the train station*, i think there are a couple of benches around there too (if memory serves correctly).

*erm, the station has two entrances/exists, but to get to the other one you have to go down some escalators.

w00t! we got ourselves a meeting place!!!

Ok, so in accordance with thetrainline.co.uk, I get the 7:59 train from poulton-le-fylde, and i arrive at manchester piccadilly at 9:20. (Looks like i may be hanging around for a bit.) There's another train later, which gets me there for 9:37, in case i miss the first one. I'm gonna have to wake up pretty early for this!!! Should be good fun though!

We're getting to Manchester Airport at 8:10, and it's about a 15 minute train journey (or sometimes 30 minutes? Do they sometimes get lost?) but we have to get to the station first and do the luggage thing so I figure we'll be at Picadilly about 9:30ish?

That is of course if everything is on time that day. I think exchanging mobile numbers is a good idea!

I think I know where WHSmith's is - last time I was at the station it was a big white box o' construction tho'...

Is there a Starbucks nearby by the way? It's just I've fallen in love with that falafel wrap thing. :)

This should be sooo fun!

Loki

If it's falafel, I'm having some too!

We don't have starbucks in blackpool. And falafel is difficult to find in blackpool, unless you're willing to settle for the cauldron foods stuff.

Nat has told us all of the joy of the boots sandwich. Unfortunately, the blackpool branch of boots doesn't stock it. So I've thought about making one myself. Alfalfa, carrot & hummus sound sgood to me, except for one thing: where the bugger does one get alfalfa from?

If anyone knows, do tell. Or if anyone has any other good sandwich ideas, do speak. I may not be vegan, but I hate egg mayo, and I hate cheese. So vegetarian sandwiches you usually get just don't cut it for me.

Loki, the easiest way to get alfalfa is to get the seeds and sprout it yourself :) If you manage to get some seeds, post in the food forum and I or someone else will tell you how to sprout it. It's really easy and only takes a few days.

Other than that, you might find bags of alfalfa in the fridge section of a health food shop.

Or just use watercress :p

You might find alfalfa seed at a farm supply. If you can't find any, pm me your address and I'll send you some. They raise alfalfa by the bale in my neck of the woods.

Sandwich idea i got from an independent sandwich place we have here , is lettuce, mayo, grated carrot and red and yellow peppers, it's REALLY nice and can also be veganised by either leaving out the mayo or using eggless mayo.

Oh and as for falafel has anyone tried the i think it's goodlife or gardenlife or something, they make nut cutlets and those spicy bean burger things, anyway they have falafel with yoghurt dip, i've never tried it myself, but they have it in the frozen vegetarian section of sainsburys.
Also talking of sainsburys has anyone tried their new freefrom ice creams? theres raspberry and toffee and pecan i believe, I tried the toffee one, it's really nice, and i also discovered ice cream ice lollys, called supreme or something along those lines ('m bad with names) they're vegan and REALLY nice, expensive but worth the price imo.

Oooh! I will be checking out the Sainsbury freezer cabinets on my next visit, thanks for the tip!

One of my favourite sandwiches is grated carrot, onion and peanut butter - I like quite a lot of the carrot and onion to off set the stickiness of the peanut butter!
I'm not really a fan of peanut butter but the other way I will eat it is on toast with branston pickle - don't knock it til you've tried it! Everyone I know says "Yuk" but once they are persuaded to have a bite they have to agree it's a good combo!

If I was going to the Vegan Festival I would not be wasting the space in my stomach on anything until I got in there and seen what they have to offer. You can get a Starbucks Falafel Wrap whenever you are near a Starbucks (more often for some than others I know) but when all that creative and tasty vegan food, made by skilled vegan caterers is waiting for you . . . well, it's a once a year opportunity!

I'm interested in going to starbucks for a falafel wrap. After all, my love for falafel is well documented. It's contagious too! i think over half the people on these boards who enjoy falafel caught it off of me.
