Hello :o)

I am considering going vegan but I have found it super difficult to find anything and also find things that are not ridiculously expensive. I know it's worth it but at the same time I am a student so my income is very limited but when it comes to skincare and snack foods I find it very difficult to find/afford things which is why I usually go back to eating meat and foods etc that use animal products.

If anyone from Auckland or anywhere else in NZ has any good places to visit it'd be so much appreciated! Or any brands and regular food at the supermarkets would also be very very fantastic!

Thank you so much in advance!

Kristobel

Well you can go to an Asian (china) supermarket , the tofu is about 1/3 cheaper.
Binn Inn are good for bulk food rice, pasta, beans, spices don't buy a lot , slowly build up what you need . Sort out a few recipes and buy from there.
Maybe purchase a crock pot , if you don't have one , pick them up at garage sales for about $10 to $20 .

these are real good about $6.50 but two people will get 3 meals out them you get them at NewWorld

If you look in the freezers at all the supermarkets there are spring rolls burgers , all vegan .

Also at the deli's at all the supermarkets they sell precooked samosas , they have a green spot on them just ask .

Hope it helps

Hey... have you checked out the NZ vegetarian society (also vegan friendly). they have a page of good restaurants in loads of different areas. Plus they have some good health food shops that have vegan/vegetarian foods for sale.... Check it out. Just google it and you should find the website!!
I found it really helpful.

Woah, I would love to stay in one of those Prison thingumajigs, I hope there's a big poster of Winston Peter's face on the wall of every prison cell, then I would brake the law just so I could wake up at 3.00am to prey to his giant face!!!

We have better place names, like Whakatane.

Whakatane?, isn't that what the mob calls it when Tane upsets the boss?

We also have Whakapapa. We are lucky it isn't Whakyourpapa as that would be incest.

Hey I was thinking I might try and grow my own veggies next year. But I havent ever done it before and I was wondering if anyone has any tips for the NZ climate as to what grows well and what time of year it grows best etc.

I will be in Christchurch so the weather will be reasonably chilly in winter.

I looked on the another thread on growing veggies but its not specific to NZ weather obviously so thought I might get some better tips here!!

I so hate 45% of NZ, Johno Key is gonna screw NZ:grr:

Some (*cough cough* idiots) said they don't know much about Johno K's policies but that they want change, you shouldn't vote for change if you don't know what the change your voting for is.:spew:

Well you might like to look into building something like the low polythene tunnel in the link .
http://www.garden.ie/howtogrow.aspx?id=360

ChChCH has major problems with late frosts, its best to visits your local garden centres and purchase veggie plants as they come into season .

Then start of your seeds to come behind your veggie plants .
Also look up your local gardening group ....they are the ones with the knowledge of what to grow and when in your area
Happy gardening :hi:

Vegan marshmallows in NZ! http://www.angelfood.co.nz/
I have had that kit for a while, but haven't gotten round to making them yet. I will post about whether they are good when I do get round to making them.

Woah, that's suuuch a coincidence:
I got those last week or something for $7 something, I just finished the last one about half an hour ago. They didn't turn out how I would've expected, they were alot softer and damper than I thought they'd turn out. Quite a while ago I got some pre-made ones which were in a box (still Angelfood), they're much more like proper marshmallows than the ones I made. I hope your ones turn out good
