ah that must be hard! but i guess maybe you would get used to it - lentils are great!!! what is seitan? tonight for dinner i made these rice paper rolls with fresh veggies (mints corriander lettuce shallots grated carrot) and i made this asian lentill fried stuff hahah - it was sooo yum, we had friends over for dinner and the little boy is allergic to peanuts so i made a peant sauce but with chick peas instead - it was delicious - are u allergic to nuts?

No thank goodness! Almond milk is one of my staples (I'm not a big fan of peanuts so I usually sub them for some other kind of nut). I LOVE those fresh rice paper rolls! There's an awesome chinese take away at Giralang shops (well what used to be the shops anyway :() and they make delicious one's. They do have prawns but I just ask them to leave those out :lick: I'd love your chickpea sauce recipe :D

Seitan is just wheat gluten (I buy gluten flour from the HFS at Belco markets) mixed with spices/herbs (depends whether you're making chicken/meat/fish flavour etc) and then boiled (although I find baking it gives it a much nice texture). It's very meaty feeling, you can also buy it in asian food stores (the one in Gungahlin has it, that big new one, can't think of what it's called at the moment) in tins and it's just called vegetarian duck/chicken/pork etc. I just have trouble getting past the visual idea that I am eating glue :-/

It is kinda tough having food intolerances, I can't eat fruit, avocado (except in tiny amounts), beans (tiny amounts again), anything soy. I make a LOT of stuff from scratch (sigh, some days I feel like I'm chained to my kitchen). I also eat quite a lot of savoury yeast (YUM!) and make creamy sauces and stuff out of potato instead of soy creams and stuff, it's doable and while I think it would be easier to go back to eating meat I never could.

(lol noticed we're just totally taking over the Aussie thread here! Sorry everyone!!)

Hi all. I'm in Melbourne and I have a question for those of you who shave (I'm female but a razor is a razor, I'll shave my legs with a man's shaver if I have to)- are there any cruelty-free razor brands in Australia? I've just discovered that Gillette tests on animals and everytime I pick up my trusty razor I get a pang of guilt. A little help?

But I think Ill leave that until next week because right now Easter weekend has arrived which means only one thing >>> time to leave for Doofland :p

HAPPY EASTER EVERYBODY!!!

Great news and a step in the right direction for aussie kids rights. :)

PARENTS are being warned not to smack their children in guidelines being released by a child welfare agency supported by the Federal Government.

The guidelines, available in 16 languages on the Australian Childhood Foundation's kidscount website ( link), tell parents that smacking children even on rare occasions teaches them that violence is acceptable later in life.

The $2.5 million taxpayer-funded campaign advises that: "Physical punishment causes pain to stop the behaviour. For example, hitting a child with a hand or object."

It also states that physical punishment "teaches children that violence can be an acceptable way to solve problems", and that it can have an adverse impact on their emotional development.

I can smell your credit card from here :)

bet the no cash thing was Kris Noble's idea. I guess this is his way of forcing the aussie contestants into acting "more like europeans" or whatever it was he said.

Prolly. I doubt if his tactics will work AGAIN. :) Aussies will always vote out the drama queens at the end, he should learn his lesson lol. If anything the outcome of BBUK was more like BBA last year.

i went to this amaing vego resteraunt last night - Au Lac in Dickson
it was soooo good

That's the best, isn't it? :wayne: We sometimes go to Canberra just to visit that place! Well sort of, we find other things to do there, but always visit there for lunch. There's only one vegetarian Vietnamese restaurant I know of here in Sydney, but they can't quite compete with Au Lac. Hopefully will be going back again in two or three weeks once the car has been serviced.

I don't mind the Vegetarian Chinese place just around the corner from there too.

Wildtigercubs, sorry to hear about your intolerances. You're lucky you can eat gluten.
