View Full Version : Australia
Im looking for a practical training place from australia. (Im studying gardening). So i would like to know if there are some one who could know some gardens in Darwin or in Cairns. Our practicing time is from May to September and Im wondering is there any job then? Yea I know it`s not the best time work there, but i just have to go to australia. And I cant think anything else than australia.and thats why i just have to go there. Im little mad maybe. :)
Is there (in Darwin or in Cairns) some vegan or vegetarian community where a happy 25 years old vegan girl could sleep if i cant lodge to some garden.. :)
And then i would like to hear your thoughts about Darwin and Cairns. And everything.. Want to come there already!! =)
Hmmm- what sort of gardening? There are quite a few 'farm stay' places in rural australia where you help on the farm for free board. Could be worth looking into... a nice veggie farm could involve good gardening practice and there are many I've heard of that are organic etc. Not sure about those hot places though... and its not much help if your after pretty gardens not eating gardens!
This might help:

Not sure if I gave this to you before, but for the benefit of any Vic veggies, here it is again:
http://www.vnv.org.au/RestByName.htm
lists all the veg restaurants in Vic.
The Vegie Bar - big servings, savoury food is good, lots of vegan options (though watch out, make sure you specify the Vegan Option if you are having the vegan version of a non vegan food).
Desserts - very limited selection, extremely limited for vegans.
I defintely reccommend the Vege Bar for atmosphere and funkiness, and for the big servings. They also have some unusual dishes as well.
I suggest if you go there, that you wander down to Gertrude Street to Vegetarian Orgasm for coffee and dessert. BEST vegan range of desserts in Melbourne (now that Pronto Bronto's has closed down :().
Hope this helps!

Are Luna bars fruity squares of a fudge-like consistency? I'm pretty sure they were Leda bars, but it sounds similar enough.
Does anyone know where to get decent root beer in Australia? I can't find it anywhere, and it's driving me crazy.

Why bother drinking root beer? Drink antiseptic & you will not taste any difference!
Anyone ever been to 'Sprouts' vegetarian / vegan restaurant in Adelaide, I'm going there tonight. Haven't eaten in a restaurant for years. Any recomendations for vegan food there anyone?
I am from perth WA and am visting Melbourne for the first time, can anyone tell me where i can find a vegan friendly food place? i heard that there was some good vegan places but i don't know where they are....

Hey guys,
I've recently found some great vegan snacks in brissie. At the pie shop in Stones Corner (Logan Rd) they sell about 4 different varieties of vegan pies made with spelt flour, they're so yummy. Also there's a a tiny blink-n-you'll-miss-it coffee shop at the bottom of the TNG building in the City who sell vegan cakes, slices and muffins. I'm working my way through each variety :)

So what highly edible vegan products are available in Aussie supermarkets? I like Sanitarium's "Not Burgers" for vegeburgers, they're expensive (~$1.80 each) but delicious. Fry's vege-burgers and vege-sausages are very realistic, and a bit cheaper.
Sanitarium also make a series of Strasbourg analogues which are surprisingly tasty when microwaved. Aside from these, I've found nothing. Can anyone recommend any?
