I went to that one too. I had fuzzy yellow hair, glasses, and a big nose. Hehe... I've met someone else from VB and didn't even notice. :D

Hey Rene...

Bella Black Bean, aka Horatio, is doing well! he's SO big now!!

I put his piccies on my website:

http://groups.msn.com/AmyJosh/horatio.msnw

He is absolutely adorable. Loves snuggling, talks a lot, wakes me up in the morning (but patiently waits for my alarm to go off! awwww), and sings little kitty songs. When he's happy, he will sit there and do that little throaty kitty thing, you know "rrr! thrrrr!!!" hehe soooo cuuuuuuuuute

I never knew there was a Sydney Vegans Unite. Andrew who started the Melbourne one used to post on the old Veganlist board. I can't make it Saturday night either.

I went to Purple Lotus a couple of times when they first opened. It was ok, but some of their ingredients you can buy in a lot of asian supermarkets. Firstly there was some soya protein, exactly the same as the one you can buy at Vegan's Choice. Then the soya chicken, I'm sure it's the frozen soya chicken nuggets you can buy in the asian supermarkets. Nothing special. The red bean buns you can buy from the bakery in Market city. There's a lotus seed one which is really nice also.

Mother Chu's is my favourite. Especially the sizzling gluten, crispy gluten, tofu balls, the soya bean rolls etc. They make all their own gluten and tofu, so it's not like something you can make yourself at home, like the dishes we'd tried at Purple Lotus.

But normally these days we just go to Green Gourmet at St Leonards because it's the only decent place on the north side. Their food is good, most especially the deep fried ice cream.

OMG avene have you had the mother chu's special hot pot? If you like hot pots, it's SO GOOD.

I just tried the Vietnamese veg place on Enmore Rd here in newtown/enmore last week, and it was really tasty. I had a "chicken" hot pot with tofu and mushrooms & black fungus in it -- very nice. I'd definitely go there again (celestial something)

Where is this place exactly? Sounds good!

Amy, no, I don't think I have tried that. I'll try and remember to try it next time I'm there. They've got so many dishes.

I forgot all about that Vietnamese place. I read a review of it once but still haven't been there yet. I'll have to check it out sometime. There's a really nice Vietnamese vegetarian restaurant in Canberra. Just around the corner from it there's a Chinese one also.

By the way, does anyone from Sydney know if Joy at Marrickville have closed for good? We went there Friday night and they weren't open. Sadly they were never busy. On a few occasions we were the only people there. The couple who ran the place were always really nice.

Iceflower, I'm at Harbord (Northern beaches). My bird photo was taken at Freshwater beach close to here.

On the subject of food, in Chinatown there's lots of moon cakes available now. They had the dragon there yesterday aswell. I picked up this vegetarian (no yolks) taro flavoured moon cake from the Thai Kee supermarket in market city. I'd never tried one before, and it's really nice! The brand is Ahn Phat. I'm sure I've tried some of their other cakes before.

Speaking (a while back) of Purple Lotus, I work just around the corner from them and tried their take-away stuff that's at the front in trays..... it was so bland, more like a chewing exercise (yet their other food is so nice). I hope not too many omnis give that selection a try as their first veg/fake-meat food (maybe they do and that's why we hear "veg food is boring").
