If you want somewhere thats nice and sunny year round try anywhere in Queensland! It's great, but also can be pretty hot and muggy if you live up north. I'd second Melbourne though as a great city especially if you are Vegan!

Kai, I met a vegan lady from Perth once at a vegan restaurant here in Sydney. Unfortunately we never exchanged contact details. She was studying animal law from what I remember. Anyway, maybe try a web search from www.google.com.au Type vegan perth.

By the way, I heard there's a lot of vegetarian restaurants in Singapore, even in the food courts. Are there that many?

Oh Singapore is absolutely wonderful!! Some food courts were a little problematic, but generallly Singpore is extremely veggie friendly, they have the most amazing mock-meat/chicken/fish every things meals for only a few dollars. And lots of non mock asian vegetarina, Indian, etc..

Hey good question! Well I had the same issue with Indo Mie noodles, I really like them. Liked, that is. I checked the packets religiously everytime I ate them but recently got a little laminated card with a list of animal additives from VNV -vegetarian network victoria (does anyone else have one?) and I went and researched this question (the net really is a great tool) and it turns out that there is an issue with one of the preservatives in the noodles, 631 - a flavour enhancer. I searched this up and according to the reviewers at http://www.vegsoc.org.au/product_list.asp?ProductID=5 of another product which uses the same ingredient, 631 (here referred to as 'Disodium inosinate') can come from seaweed or sardines/meat. I next went to http://www.vegsoc.org.au/faq.asp who said 631 was 'sodium 5'-inosinate', and was placed in their '(additives) to definitely avoid' list.
So there you go, looks like 631 is most likely derived from animal ingredients, dammit. Hope that answers your question. Well, just think, two minute noodles aren't that good for you anyway, so maybe its not such a bad thing to go without. (or you could just change brands to a vegan friendly packet) :)

Iceflower, yeah it sounds like a pretty decent place. We have a friend who's working there until the end of the year that we could stay with, so I'm keen to visit and have a look around. Apparently there's also more readily available tropical fruits that are a lot cheaper like dragon fruit, jack fruit etc. Although I believe some of the laws are quite strict, like the kids in school having to be a certain weight. But maybe that's a good thing if it prevents obesity?

Matharial, flavour enhancers from 620 up to 632 I think are all MSG. So they're best avoided anyway.

Durians are great. We had a really small fresh one earlier this year in Hawaii. It was so much nicer than the frozen ones you get here. But I still much prefer jack fruit! If you get a big mature one that's ripe. Or a piece of one, as they can be expensive.

I'm in Sydney also Phonsee.

Its good to see fellow vegans and vegetarians amongst Sydney.

Maybe we can all meet up one time.

For vegans there is a social club in Melbourne and Sydney.

Extract:

The next Vegans Unite social dinner will be held on Saturday the 27th of August at 7pm at The Purple Lotus Restaurant, Shop 2, 15 Goulburn St, Haymarket. Nearly all their dishes are vegan-friendly. The food is exceptional, Asian influenced and adventurous!. Be sure to save room for something from their unique and interesting dessert menu; such as the sweet red bean paste buns, served warm. They don’t offer alcoholic drinks, but they have a selection of non-alcoholic beers and wines available.

I've never been though, i might try it out one day.

I've been to a couple of Vegans Unite outings, (I live in Wollongong). They are quite a nice group of people. The Purple Lotus rocks! It's soooo good. I'm thinking of going to that particular dinner.

Durian is evil! That's why the skin is covered in spikes! It's warning people to keep away!!! Hahaha. I've spent alot of time in Thailand, and that's one fruit that seriously freaks me out! It tastes like minced onion! (i don't mind minced onion, but not when it's meant to be a fruit!)

I'm from Sydney, eastern suburbs. My favourite vegan restaurants in Sydney are:

Pitt St Vegetarian (by far the best yum cha ever, try the savoury balls - heaven!)
Green Gourmet in Newtown (excellent buffet - and Vegan's Choice supermarket next door to it)

The Purple Lotus Restaurant, Shop 2, 15 Goulburn St, Haymarket. Nearly all their dishes are vegan-friendly. The food is exceptional, Asian influenced and adventurous!
How come i never knew about this restaurant???!!! I spend heaps of time in Chinatown, i've never seen it!!! I'm gonna go there this weekend! :D

Hmm I'll have to hunt down the purple lotus too.

I've been to a few vegansunite meetings in Sydney...but I'm not sure I'll be able to make this one though ($$$'s tight this week)
