I'm just astonished that someone could be eating any kind of diet 90% of the time! When does she find time to sleep?
Sorry, I couldn't help it ;-)

You're cheeky Avene! Sounds like something my other half would say when in his smarty pants mood! Funny.....
HAPPY MONDAY EVERYBODY!!

Yeh, I don't know if she's actually a vegetarian or not...she might eat meat on occasions. The article didn't say. It's probably a good way to be...nearly complete vegan but without the definate 'I can't eat this'.

Oh and *blows raspberry is avenes direction* :D

Yes I agree Iceflower. If the majority of what someone eats is vegan they're doing a lot better for their own health [and for animals] than the majority of people are!

Hmmm, I just tried making a vegan Murgh Makhani (Butter Chicken). It turned out quite nice but I'd really made a mess of it. Instead of ghee I used spray olive oil. Instead of real chicken I used some of the frozen soya chicken you buy at asian stores. I don't keep sugar here so I used golden syrup instead of sugar. For the spices I halved the amounts in the recipe, as it was just me eating it. Also, instead of 1/4 cup of yoghurt and 1/2 cup of cream, I used tiny bit of coconut cream. I probably should have used more because the dish ended up tasting quite tangy. Although I think I had too much lemon juice in there aswell. The fake chicken had that asian taste about it too which made it seem a bit weird in an Indian dish. The cinamon stick was a bit strong aswell and broke into pieces. That was annoying, pulling all those out whilst eating it.

Well, it was worth a try. If I buy some potatoes one day I'm going to try making a vegan Malai Kofta. I used to eat that back in my dark vegetarian days.

My dad actually made me Butter Koftas - it turned out amazing!! (I think we actually put in natural dairy yoghurt though). I did post a recipe a while back but I think it's been deleated in all the changes since..

Yeah it was absolutely packed. I had to sit on the stairs, as many did. People were also sitting all over the floor at the front of the theatre. I have emailed the uni re the video and will let you know.

Iceflower, that sounds nice. I wonder if soy yoghurt would work? Except all the soy yoghurts I know of are either fruit flavoured or vanilla.

Tonight I made a veggie korma. It came out pretty good, but nowhere near as tasty as last night's effort. I've got my old laptop set up in the kitchen networked to my other cable internet PC. So I don't have to bother with cook books in the kitchen anymore. I just open the laptop, do a Google search for whatever recipe I'm after, and then I'll end up with an almost infinite list of results for the recipe I'm after. It's really cool. Then I'll just go through the list and choose whichever I have the ingredients for or is the easiest to make. Oh yeah, and I can also load iTunes and listen to one of the ad-free internet radio stations on there in one of my favourite genres while I'm cooking. It's the best! Definitely the way of the future.

Yeh, it would probably turn out pretty funky.

*slaps head* I said that thinking you were American lol...I forgot which thread I was in. I haven't seen it in shops of heard of any commercially available, but saying that, IKU wholefoods resteraunts/health food shop (theres one on Oxford St) pour soy cream over their pies and cakes - they must make it themselves. Maybe you can find a recipe online?

Blue Lotus make a (vegan) cream and sour cream. I've only seen it at Coles (the one at Penrith).

Hmmm, Penrith, that's a bit far to travel from the northern beaches for some fake cream. The Coles stores around here need to get their act together!

Has anyone ever seen a vegan veggie burger in Australia? And where the hell is everyone getting tofu? I can't find any!

Maybe I just suck at shopping...

Every coles and Woolworths I have been to has various tofu stuff. I don't like premade veggie patties - but the local coles I go to has the most delicious thing - it is a kingland product in a green packet called spicy tofu/tempeh. It is three patties together and they are SOOOOOO tasty - I eat them raw on sandwiches and cooked in ANYTHING from thai soups, curries, mexican etc.

Mmmmmm, I want some right NOW!

What about down in the city? Like Bondi Junction and Glebe. Or maybe North Sydney (Hornsby has a Coles).

Where in supermarkets is the tofuage?

Kurmudgeon

It depends on the supermarket. My local supermarket has it (unfortunately) amongst a lot of highly processed meats.

I've only had them a couple of times since they're about $4.50 a package, but they are wonderful! We get them at woolie's
