I tried one of GJ's iced coffees once and it was also sweet and it was almost all milk! Did I get the wrong thing? I just asked for an "iced coffee" (or coffee chiller? or something) and it was like coffee-flavoured milk. it wasn't very good :( maybe i got teh wrong thing. I just want strong black coffee over ice.

Amy, I know what you mean by an americano but if you ask for that in Oz they'll give you an " I don't know what you're talking about" look as there's no equivalent expression for it here. Just order a long black and ask for a glass of ice as well, when it arrives just pour the black over the ice :)

That's interesting about Dominos. So you could go there, order a pizza minus cheese with their normal crust and standard sauce, and it would be vegan. I would never have thought it could be

Oh, I tried the vegetarian Indian restaurant at Parramatta yesterday also. It was nice, but the lady seemed a bit uncertain about what was vegan and what was not. She said all these were ok (Pointing to some dishes), but a guy at the back said not the chick pea curry and something else that were among them.

Avene, was that the Vrindavan restaurant you went to or Woodlands ? Woodlands is always a bit funny with what is vegan and what isn't, but Vrindavan is good, they appear to know everything that is in their dishes without a problem...well that is my experience anyway.

Actually, Woodlands really made me mad on Wednesday! A veggie friend, her 6 year old son, and myself, were meeting to have lunch at Vrindavan, but it was for some reason closed....[I hope not for good!!!] So we went to Woodlands. My friend's son had a little lunch box with some of his own food in it as like alot of kids, he is picky and doesn't like Indian / spicy food particularly. The bloke there said he couldn't eat it, that we'd have to spend $8 for him at least, whether he eats there or not!!! We ended up walking and eating in a food court as we couldn't sit there and eat while he just watched us, and my friend isn't exactly made of money if you know what I mean. I was surprised as I have never come across that before - most restaurants are really accommodating when it comes to children in my experience, so I was quite amazed, especially as all he had in his lunch box was some vegan yogurt and some salad. It made me mad to think a vegetarian restaurant would do that. It's not as if the place was packed or anything either. Oh well, what can you do ?

Iceflower, thanks so much for that link re: Dominos Pizza. I am amazed like Avene. That is brilliant; I mean it's like they are actually INTERESTED in what people with different eating habits want. Avene, I would never have thought that it could be either!

I'm excited! My bf is taking me to Squirrels vegan restaurant for VDay - it only took an email with very unsubtle hints last week about how they always book out for valentines! :p

I would post a link but their website is down. They make the best cajun tofu!

The cheese is vegetarian, but it's possible the sauce or pizza base may have milk products in them. But that was also vegan enough for me because if there was any, it would only be in the minute (i know im spelling that wrong!) amounts.

I had the same trouble at one of the Indian veggie resteraunts - I can't remember if it was Vrindavan or Deb's Biryani. I was asking them about whether their cheese had rennent and their cheesecake had rennent or gelatin and they kinda said 'all vegetarian, no animal products' unclearly (seeing they ARE dairy products).
I just took thier word (or their semi-confusing-word lol) for it though and ate them. I think they actually make their own cheese in those types of places so it should be pretty safe.

Welcome :) i was actually really surprised by it too, a friend sent me a link to let me know because her brother works there, but I had never seen or heard that before in any of the veggie cheese things I read, or when I looked around the dominoes site myself!!
Always good to know though for when you have to sahre with omnis who really don't want cheeseless pizza.

Oooh oh! And guess what? My very country boy meat eating boyfriend agreed that pizza actually *does* taste better without the cheese. And it doesn't give him heartburn. :bobo:

Sorry I might be wrong! I was thinking thats the name of it but there are 2 Indian resteraunts on the one corner, it may be next door I'm thinking of?
Most Indian resteraunts have an extensive veg selection anyways :)

We went to Kaavery (sp. bad, I know) in the main street of Pendle Hill tonight. So many interesting yummy veggie options! :P

It's Indian, but it has a lot more variety, and is even MORE vegetarian friendly than most Indian resteraunts. I have been to LOTS on Indian resteraunts and never heard of a lot of the things that they have on the menu here - chaats, tiffins, dosas, thalis etc and most of these things will give you a fair few different things in the one meal (thali esp) rather than just one basic veg curry on rice. They have both South and North Indian food, whereas normally I think resteraunts generally stick to Northern.
Oh! And they have stamps cards! (like Boost Juice and Muffin Break etc...) Buy 5 dinners I think and get $30 off your next meal!

Hi guys

This may have already been posted somewhere but a quick scan through 60 odd pages of posts doesn't look promising so... Does anyone know a place in Brisbane that sells nutritional yeast? Mucho thanks in advance!!!! :)

Hi asiel

I don't know about Brisbane, but here in Melbourne I always get my nutritional yeast from health food shops. Nearly every health food shop around here stocks it, but it's often labelled Savoury Yeast Flakes. It looks like pale yellow flakes and usually comes in clear plastic bags.

Good luck in your search!

I also buy savourey yeast flakes from the health food shop. Lotus makes them. They taste good sprinkled over pasta, or mixed with lemon juice and garlic over steamed vegetables

Oh thanks heaps!!! I'll keep an eye out for it next time I'm shopping. Savoury Yeast Flakes... THIS would explain the blank looks when I ask for nutritional yeast :D
