My dad told me Dave Hughs the comedian spoke out about that meat add. He's veggie :smitten: I love him even more now.

Yeah, I saw him on A Current Affair talking about it. I had no idea he was vegetarian...... he seemed much too typical "Aussie" to be one.
And apparently Andrew G from Aussie Idol is vegan (he was in the story too).

I know I think thats why I was so shocked! Dad said he was saying he realised it was satirical, but was saying people should recognise that veggie food can real appelaing and tasty (while buying an apparently unappealing looking kebab or something?)

Andrew G I've know has been vegetarian for a while, I'm not sure about vegan? He's the trendy type though, so it's no shocker.

I've seen an article about him saying he was vegan.

What's with the "trendy" slap, btw?

I think it means Andy would go vegan if it was trendy to be vegan.

Well like Kurm said, Dave Hughes is the very typical Aussie bloke stereotype and there very very few vegetarians in that grouping.
But Andrew G is younger, and in the whole punk/music subculture being a bit alternative, and doing things a bit different to the majority, is trendy. I saw an article on homebake for eg (which he goes to, reports on etc) and there were about 8 bands who were almost entirely comprised of vegetarian or vegan members. I just think its a lot more common and expected within that subculture.

Anyway, so how about Latham quitting? I've never voted ALP or anything, but I liked him (especially when compared to Johnny W. Howard, and how he wasn't worried about calling Bush what he is).
Now it looks like we'll get Beazley (much more pro-Washington than Latham) or Kevin Rudd (based on what I've seen of him on Sunrise, Sunday, ACA, etc., I prefer him). There are a few others... but who knows.

I recently read an article in "Vegetarian and Natural Health" about Andrew G and his veganism. I didn't get that it was inspired by trendiness at all.

I don't know about the ALP at the moment, they don't seem to have any good contenders for the top spot.

I dunno if it's trendy to be vegan, that's why I said "if it was trendy to be vegan".

NV&NH is crap, though. Anyway, it's just that Andrew G. seems like the type that would be vegan if it was trendy...... I wasn't (and I don't think iceflower was either) saying that that is the reason why he is vegan.

My library gets it in. It does seem to be mostly ads for some place called "Hopewood" though, but still, I do borrow it from them every now and again.

Oh I have a recommendation...any lacto-veggies who don't eat gelatin and are missing Cherry Ripes, Darrel Lea had put out a dark chocolate coated soft strawberry licorice that comes pretty close to what I rememeber Cherry Ripes being like (and I think the flavour and texture is better anyway!). Go try some!

There was a vegan Cherry Ripe-type chocolate once, but they changed the recipe. It's lacto now, but I can't recall the name. It may be one of those "weight watcher/slimming" type snacks. When they were vegan I used to shovel them into my mouth (as I used to do with Cherry Ripes).

Ah damn, wish I knew that when I was vegan.
I spose you could always make your own with some dark chocolate, copha, coconut and glace cherries (as long as their not cochineal coloured).

I dunno - Beazley had his chance and blew it. There is something about him I just don't like - this isn't based on anything tangible though. I like Kevin Rudd, and like Julia Giddard (sp?) from the little I've seen of her but doubt they would vote someone in who is such an unknown to the general public.

I'm surprised Garrett doesn't stick his hand up  from the state the party is in right now it couldn't really make things worse.

I don't really like Beasley, something about his facial expressions and body language. Dumb reason not to like a polly, I know.

What's everyone doing for Australia Day (besides not eating lamb in true unAustralian fashion)?
My plan for helping out at the Animal Lib stall at the BDO in Sydney fell through (damn BDO people), and I was thinking of going on a tour of significant sites in Botany Bay regarding the settlement of Australia from an Indigenous perspective. It's run by the descendants of Indigenous Australians who lived there back when Phillip and Cook arrived. Problem is, I have no idea of time and/or meeting location.

I checked the supermarket this evening; it's Ultra Slim cherry bite that appear to use to be vegan, but are still okay for lacto-vegetarians.

Australia Day? I hadn't thought. I guess I might go up to the Tent Embassy on Sandon Point (near Bulli Beach, Wollongong) and gripe about overdevelpment of our lovely foreshores. I'll probably drink beer there, too. That's not un-Australian.

No reason is too dumb when it comes to disliking our government :D

I just moved to Parramatta and they are having a big thing in the park all day. I think we are getting up at 6am to go see the hot air balloons and have a 2WSfm brekkie, then are going back after dinner to see Bjorn Again and Vanesse Amerosi and the fireworks.

I'm not sure what I am doing. I will probably have to go into work and try and finish getting our website ready as I had a bit of sick time lately. I can say with a fair degree of certainty that beer will be consumed at some point in the day/evening :D

Invasion Day doesn't really hold fantastic reasons for celebrating IMO.

Kurm - that sounds really interesting (the tour) let us know what it was like.
