We have an enormous room available in a big, old house in
Stanmore/Enmore with a luscious permaculture vegie garden and a kitty
for organic vego/vegan food. If you're considerate, love good
conversation and delicious communal feasts and are interested in a fun,
chilled, harmonious home, call Rachel, Amanda, Dee or Paul on 9557 0178.

Would love to get together - But I am in Brisbane :(
I'll meet up, sure. But I'm in Sydney.

No more than 2 people can meet up in Sydney...... it is against the law for 3 or more to congregate.
Not correct. You can congregate "with permission", though for the life of me I don't know who you get the permission off. The police I think.

That's what's got me about this Saturday..... Andrew is AR, while his party (the Aussie Democrats) often compromise with the government; while the Greens may accept no compromise, but are a bunch of meat-eating environmentalists.

Also, preferences for the Aussie Democrats go to the Christian Democrat Party and Family First.

Family First :gun: :gun:
The party with a candidate who admitted he would like to see lesbians burned at the stake.

And Fred Nile (CDP) wants to ban traditional Muslim clothing for women because they could hide bombs under it.

Does anyone really take Fred Nile seriously anymore? I thought he was more used as a jokey piece for filler on a slow news day.

Apparently it was just a Family First volunteer helper who said "yes" when asked by a Greens supporter whether lesbians should be burned at the stake; Family First then banned the guy from volunteering and publicly rebuked him.

Oh okay. It sounded on ABC newsradio like it was a candidate who said it. It didn't sound that implausible to me that they might say something like this! I wouldn't be surprised if they actually had a policy somewhere like this!

I'd thought (thanks in large part to the image from the media) that they were extreme right-wing, but reading their website http://www.familyfirst.org.au they don't seem to be.

And quite a win it was. I'm disappointed in my fellow Aussies who voted him back in..... bloody drongos.
At least the Greens seemed to have done quite well.

I'm so disappointed right now. *sigh*
Just hope they don't ride into the senate in those numbers. Hope the strong green vote is an indication that we will see a few more greens in the senate.

I'm gonna start planning my move to NZ. It'll take me a while, although hopefully I can get out of here before Costello takes over as Prime Minister.

I just came back from my first dinner with VNV (Vegetarian Network Victoria (http://www.vnv.org.au/)) and will probably go along in a couple weeks to the Vegans Unite dinner. It's actually a frantic month:
09/10 - VNV Social Dinner (http://www.vnv.org.au/SocialEvents.htm)
23/10 - Vegans Unite Social Dinner (http://www.vegansunite.org.au/melbourne/index.php) (SoulMama Cafe (http://www.soulmama.com.au))
24/10 - Cruelty Free Expo
31/10 - World Vegan Day Melbourne (http://wvd.vegansunite.org.au/)
(06/11 - VNV Social Dinner (http://www.vnv.org.au/SocialEvents.htm), Vegie Bar, Fitzroy)
We had 18-20 at the dinner tonight which is fantastic. Went to the Moroccon Soup Bar In North Fitzroy and it was pretty good and cheap too. Not exactly sure what I ate but it tasted just fine. Met some beautiful people and it was a very enjoyable night.
Spoiled by the election result though :(
