Guilty as charged :guitar: I should really update that profile sometime.

I don't suppose you know anywhere in Melbourne that sells Zoglo's(???) food?

We went to La Mela @ the rocks. They had an excellent veg risotto - artichoke, pinenut and fetta. Even made with veg broth, not chicken broth  DH had a spinach ricotta ravioli which was excellent.

The other night, we went to Mother Chu's - excellent! I had a soya bean roll hot pot with tamarind & chili sauce, and DH had the Taiwan-style sour veggie stir fry. Both were quite good. And we also had the veg hot & sour soup. I will definitely go there again :)

A new spice shop opened locally about 6 months ago and I finally got around to visting it. What a find! Lots of spices I've never been able to get elsewhere plus some premade mixes for making veggie curries and the like. Lots of choice in rice and dried beans, lentils etc. They had some dried veggie chicken subsitute that I may try next time. I don't have a clue what to do with it. I'll have to ask the owner and hope he knows. All the other customers were Muslim ladies - it was quite exotic. I spent about 1/2 hr in there. It's in Werribee, Vic. in case you want to visit.

Hey, thanks heaps for that! :smitten:

My dear ol' mum rang them up but they could only tell me what was on the website (Coles has it). Rang around and found that Coles in Northcote stocks the nuggets. Couldn't find much else though

Also Safeway on Smith Street may be stocking them soon :guitar: (mum had a long talk with them about it).

I'd be interested to know how that veggie chicken turns out  Werribee's a bit far for me (I don't have a car) but if there's veggie chicken in it, I think I'll be able to deal with the long train ride

Well, I tried the Zoglo's and found they sucked when I fried them *I'm talking blegh level suckiness* but were good baked. Anyhoo, they made me and my boyfriend feel rather ill so I'm still on my search to find the ultimate fake meat.

Mum told me yesterday that she heard a guy on the radio talking about how Vegemite is no longer Kosher. Anybody know why? I'm not sure what makes something Kosher exactly but I'm pretty sure it'd mean that it's no longer suitable for veg*ns.

Soul Mama wins hands down. But I do love the Vegetarian Orgasm's Choc/Caramel/Peanut Butter cake thing.

I wrote to Vegemite about the Kosher deely and I got this in response:

Dear Julia

Thank you contacting Kraft Foods via our website regarding our product
Vegemite.

We would like to reassure you that Vegemite is still suitable for vegans and
does not contain any meat traces as our quality systems are designed to
ensure an adequate wash and inspection after each product run to prevent
cross contamination.

Due to changes in our manufacturing plant and processes, Kraft is no longer
able to accommodate the necessary kosher regimes required for kosher
Vegemite as a result of other non-kosher products being made on the same
equipment. Consequently Kraft Foods will not be resuming production of
kosher Vegemite.

We hope the information outlined above assists you and we have also taken
the liberty of forwarding your comments and concerns to our Quality Control
and Vegemite Brand Managers.

Yours sincerely

No idea why something would be vegan and not Kosher because of what else is processed on the same machinery. Either way, I'm on my very last jar of vegemite as I don't want to support the tabacco industry.

I was also just informed that they fertilize their yeast with "blood and bone" from a vegan my sister works with so I'll definately be checking that out.

yes there peanut nougart cake the one u eat warm is to die for
