Hey people! i reckon this fourms kickass, i actually know now that there are other vegers and vegans about. i sound very isolated i know, but this actually brings me to my point. Currently i am very isolated in the area of sydney i live in (i know sounds strange, but true) and i'm also looking around for meals that are fridge and freezer friendly for me to eat when i don't feel like cooking. Any suggestions?

Scan the recipe forum. Maybe we should start a thread there for frezzer friendly food.
Oh, and welcome, too. :)

Hey Sydney people, how about this storm today? The thunder has been almost non-stop since the early hours of the moring. It's only 10am, but I think I'll go back to bed soon (after I install a database update for a client).

If you didn't already know, The fresh-baked 2003 True Food Guide (http://www.truefood.org.au/guide2.html) is out now. Rating food brands by their policy on genetically engineered (GE) ingredients, this popular shopping guide is the only way to find out if the food you are eating is GE-free.

it is such an informative guide! we are lucky to have such a comprehensive list!

down with GE

hey has anyone else noticed that it seems to be more difficult over here to get access to a lot of ingredients, ready made vegan products and foods, vegan friendly clothing, books and information, skincare etc... i half wonder if its just me, but i'd like to know if anyone else finds the same thing annoying or a bit of a problem. we just don't seem to have quite the same range as the UK or USA. i'm not having a gripe or anything, i may find feedback to be useful... i'm kind of brainstorming.
thanx!!!!

We don't have the same population density here. Thus there are fewer vegetarians... and we all know what a big meateating country this is!!!

I hate having this thread as buried as it is now... I feel that no newbie Aussies will be able to find us now!!!

i miss Christmas in Australia :(

me too

at least i have my vb sanata gift waiting for me

hey i'm coming home early-ish

as for aus availability of vegproducts

i've been talking with an american friend of mine who has travelled alot more thna me and works for peta and we both agree that melbourne has to be one of the best in terms of finding great vegan food. Not number one but at least in the top 5.

I've found amercian products to be much worse than ours for example most vegetable soups arn't vegetarian you have to look out for vegetarian vegetable soup how is silly is that?

Also other things like refried beans unlike all the australian brands so many of the amercian ones contain lard so you need to look out for vegetarian refried beans or low fat ones.

I've also found so many of their burgers convience meals etc to be great for lacto-ove veggies but not so great for vegans.

They need more products because products we assume are vegetarian arn't always there.

Try moving to melb i'll show you around to lost of products including tofutti and the place where you can get the vegan cake in the world

What do you do for Christmas? What are your traditions? The idea of Christmas in the hot of summer takes a lot of getting used to. I am hoping for no snow where I am.

Christmas in Oz is staying inside all day with the air-con turned on real cold, and possibly a swim once the sun sets (if one has access to a pool, river or beach).

I usually spend it with my parents, eating food, usually at thier house. Some opening of presents, a lot of eating food. This year they are going away, so I'm spending it a friends house eating a lot of food, drinking wine and smoking pot. It's a long, long time since I've smoked pot. :D I'm spending Christmas Eve at my boyfriends house eating a lot of food. I do the whole "get to meet the parents" thing too. On Boxing Day my brother and his family are going to see Lord of the Rings and they are taking me. Don't know if I'll be eating much food then, I'll be full from the previous two days.

I'm seeing it Boxing Day as well (why did we have to wait longer than the rest of the world?). I plan to settle down on Christmas Day and watch all 8 or so hours of the first two.

K well Xmas is a huge event in my family (prob cuz we're English and it's a big deal there). My bf and I stay at my parents place and we start off by opening our stockings, then the pressies, then we have a big champagne breakfast. Then from like 10:30 - 3 going to bf's sister's house. Then back to my parent's for dinner then off to my aunt and uncle's in the night.
We start Christmas eve. We drink a hell of a lot, eat a lot and spend a lot of time lazing around in the pool. We have our brekkie out by the pool too.
Love Christmas.

So So Hot!!!!!! I'm melting today.

X-mas is a huge thing for my family too, my Mum is actually having a 'themed' christmas party. The theme is Cowboys and Indians????? :o

Usually though my brother, sister and various partners just sit around on the porch and drink!

I absolutely agree Shewolf, if the **Local Forums**for worldwide embrace must have Australia and whatever
buried in this 'other countries' catagory, the homepage catagory for international relations shud at least show the word INTERNATIONAL included in it so that on the main heading it would read **ALL International Local Forums go here** ideally, or words to that effect.
