Something like 24 pages of posts???

I am so glad I found this board! :D

I only made it like 11 pages and there were, what, 15 Aussie veggie folks... holy crap. O_O

Nov 4th I'm heading to eastern Australia for 6 weeks. We're landing in Cairns and making our way down all the way to Tasmania, to Uluru (at some point) and then leaving from Sydney.

Six weeks! :D Woot woot woot.

Anyone who can give me any information - I'd adore you forevah!! Seriously. The best places to eat, the best touristy things to do, any places I should avoid as a loving vegan gal. I'd really like to see some of the wildlife sanctuaries and aquariums and such but I'm having a heck of a time finding out which would be the best to go to - quality of care for animals and also what you see and get for your money's worth, of course..

I've got a bunch of tour books and stuff that I'm going through, but it's insane. *grin*

Oh geez, any of you folks, feel freeeee to email me or reply here. Either's grand. :D my email is lacykitten@shaw.ca if you'd like to contact me that way.

I'm all excited, finally found lots of Aussie veggies to give me the inside scoop! *does a little dance* :bobo: :vebo:

Sounds like a fun trip! I'm not much help sorry, cause i've never really done any of the toursity things.

Are you going to be in Brisbane at all? That's about the only place I could answer questions on.

Lacykitten, I started replying to you but accidentally closed the window. That frustrated me too much so I didn't repost. But a few days on and I think I'm over it. :)

I've been to Samsara, it's great but it's really far out of the city... and they only do lunch. Veg Out Real Mealz is good if you need to grab something to eat whilst in the Valley... it is vegetarian with vegan options. Apparently they have soy ice cream too but I think you have to ask about it. Squirrels is vegan, but I have to say last time I ate their food it didn't impress me one bit. It was takeaway so dining in might be better.

As far as attractions go... avoid Alma Park Zoo. It's awful. Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and Fleay's Fauna Sanctuary are pretty good if you want to see some Aussie wildlife (Gold Coast). The best theme park around here is Dreamworld, which is in between the Gold Coast and Brisbane. Just avoid Tiger Island, that might bother you.

Brisbane has a state art gallery, museum, and performing arts centre.

There are also a few smaller galleries and theatre venues..

Gold Coast is great for beaches, and tourist shopping. It has a very relaxed culture. So does Brisbane, but the Gold Coast is way more laid back. All that sand I think. LOL

Both Brisbane and the Gold Coast have pubs and clubs, generally the Gold Coast is more glitzy, more of a flesh baring glamour scene. Brisbane is more reserved, more of a blokey pub scene.

Have you got a tourist guide to Australia? They can be helpful...

I can't really think of much to add to what shewolf posted about Brisbane. Most of the vege restaruants here are in the suburbs unfortunately, city wok(which also serves meat, but cooked seperately from the vege food) & Govinda's are the only ones in the central city.

Also, if your'e here at the weekend, Brisbane(and I think probably the Gold Coast too) has some pretty good markerts that have crafts and stuff like that.

I was wondering if you know any tooth paste not tested on animals I could get at the shops. I have Macleans Active and Pearl Drops Advance Whitening and I use Listerine and some brand of Floss

I got a Red Seal one from Coles, not sure if it's available everywhere though.

It's in the health food section, not with the rest of the toothpastes.

shewolf, thanks so much for your replies. I'll follow your links. :D

I do have a couple tourist books. Well, one recent one and one that has self-created tour suggestions, from like 2000 that I grabbed second hand.

It's sort of the "Best of the best" from the authors' points of view, but then again the authors aren't vegan and especially for things like wildlife and aquariums and stuff, it's really best to have the opinions of those who are more apt to be concerned about those things. :)

Wee, thanks :D

Thanx I'll have to check that out. Chances are its not at my local Coles but it might be at one which around 1 hour away because they have so much Soy stuff.

I found out Macleans test on animals as does Listerine so their both EVIL companies and now I'm searching for Pearl Drops.
