I can not help but wonder what would turn up if the major parties back-door dealings were so closely studied as One nation's was.

Lucky Ms. Hanson didn't kill an infant; she would have received 4 years jail then.

You guys are funny... but yet, so pointed... of course, our political system and our justice system are both jokes...

for the food.

The variety of vegan foods, dairy free ice cream, vegetarian options in restaurants.

Western style thai -tofu options.

Be thankful guys.

Its hard being a vegan in HK. So far i've been fed fish (apparently vegetable means fish in some places), and veggies in chicken stock.

And western style vegetarian food.

:( I guess you'll get more savvy at sussing things out... but apart from that are you enjoying yourself?

Hey all! Do any Brisbane people know if there are any health food shops in the CBD area? I've only been living here for about 2 months(I'm from NZ) & so far the only one i have been to is Mrs Flannery's in Woolloongabba, since I am relying on public transport/walking it is kind of out of the way if i just need 1 or 2 things, so finding something closer would be good!

hi pinkpunch!!

i'm currently living in europe at the moment but i'm from brisbane.

there is "the green grocer" in west end (boundary street if i remember correctly)
there is "fundamental" organic in paddington (also has a cafe attached to it)
there is a health food store in adelaide street in the city (kinda opposit david jones, close to the edward street//adelaide street crossing) and it is called Life Extension, 156 Adelaide Street
and another one in new farm called "Sun & Earth" located at 845 Brunswick Street - tel 3358-2299

ummmm

there might be more but i'm not sure. you might want to check the phone book for health food stores and there should be a current list in there.

if you ever go north to the sunshine coast, there is a really big health food store with a large variety of veg*n foods called "the natural food store" and it is on Mons Road in Forest Glen (behind Buderim).

i found mrs flannery's to be very expensive.

you should also try finding a co-op or farmers market if you want fresh organic fruits and veggies. here is some info about local markets with fresh organic produce >>>>

Mondo Organics Markets at Hardgrave Rd in West End
(at the restaurant of the same name)

Every Saturday, 7.30am – 12pm
Organic foods including fruit and vegetables, dips and condiments.
Certified organic market selling top quality fruit and vegetables, home baked bread using spelt flour (unbleached and organic), olive oils, Mondo’s home made dips, jams and chutneys.

and

Organic Growers Market at Cnr Northey & Victoria Streets in Windsor

Every Saturday, 6am – 10.30am
Organic food – fresh produce and dry goods.
Also know as the Northey Street Markets, the Organic Growers Market brings to Brisbane consumers a growing selection of fruit, vegetables, bread, tea, coffee, snacks, drygoods, plants and seedlings, personal products, meat and poultry. All fruit and vegetables at the Organic Growers Market are Certified Organic and are chemical free.

anyway, feel free to ask anymore questions.
i hope that helps a little bit for you though :)

you're welcome.
i realise they are all not in the CBD like your originally asked but as you can see, there isn't ALOT to offer right in the city centre.

good luck :D

Mrs Flannery's is a little exxy, but not really for the bulk stuff. I think I might check out that place in Buderim sometime soon! A friend mentioned seeing a soymilk maker in Buderim so now I've got two reasons to head up there!

I also feel like I should get to the City Farm but 6am is way too early for me... and by the time we'd rock up there wouldn't be anything worth buying left. :(

Oh, and with_open_eyes, I finally went to Veg Out! It was funny, I went with Jake, and for once, I had options and he didn't! (Being a fussy damn meateater). I would have liked to see more vegan options though... just too many with cheese that I would have bought otherwise. But I like the informal atmosphere, nice!

i don't know if cityfarm still do it but we used to pre-order a box every week and then go and pick it up and it was already packed so it wasn't like we would miss out on anything. but then again, they choose what you get ...
i really don't know their system now but you could call them i suppose?

that's cool you went to veg out.
it really should all be vegan, shouldn't it! last time i went there nearly all the cakes were vegan and they also had tofu ice cream. not sure how much it has changed though .....
did you try the sweet potato chips with soy mayo and sweet chilli? awwwww my favourite!
i'm glad you liked it ....

I didn't try the sweet potato chips! I almost did but wasn't feeling too hungry so just had pasta. I will definitely try them next time... I didn't see any soy icecream? Maybe it used to be more vegan-oriented... it seemed more lacto-ovo oriented when I was there, but maybe it changes.

Yeah, I like to pick my own veges... LOL Ms Fussy...

yeah you have to ask them for the "tofu ice cream" (as it's called there).
i've never seen it advertised actually..... ;)

maybe next time hey!?

Wherebouts in Brisbane do you live? I'm in Coorparoo and there's a couple around here, although I don't know what their like cuz I don't use them.

Shewolf - where's VegOut? I wanna go. Cept Shaun wont come :( He refuses to eat veggies. Meat only for him.

Hey all
Just wanted to share my pointless little story. Went out for dinner the other night with a whole bunch of omnis and I told the waitperson (in private - didnt want to embarass anyone.)that I was vegetarian and also allergic to dairy/eggs (found this the most affective way of getting people to take you seriously) and would they be able to organise anything for me and she said "sure that wont be a problem, say some chicken, but no butter or milk?" seriously...dont know if it was genuine that she thought I would eat chicken, or if her mind was other places. So I calmly re-explained my situation and ended up having a lovely vegetable risotto!!

i'm not shewolf (heheh) but i can tell you where it is! veg out is in the valley (fortitude valley) on wickham street.
it used to be right on brunswick street mall /valley mall but it moved around the corner kinda near the 7/11 and opposite that valley business centre ....

does that help? i hope so ;)

go there without him or with some other friends.
it really is nice! :)

Yeah, it's still there! There's no reason really to go in just for that, but if you're in the Valley and want some chow it's probably the best place to go for the likes of us! Tell him he can eat elsewhere! (Maccas is nextdoor!)

 Yeah that's a plan. I'll make mimi come with me, she loves veg food.
Dunno what Shaun's gonna do know since I'm gonna turn vegan and I'm the only one who ever remembers to buy milk. Sucked in.
Ohhhh I like this smiley :juggle: heheheh and this one :o , how cute. Sorry I'm in a dumb mood.
